Job summary

Saskatchewan Polytechnic Moose Jaw Campus is seeking a Welding Instructor to deliver theory and hands-on welding training across pre-employment, apprentice, upgrader and service programs. You will design and update training materials, prepare lessons, and assess student progress while fostering a safe, engaging learning environment.

The role requires Grade 12 or equivalent, Journeyperson Welding certificate, and at least two years of post-Journeyperson welding experience, plus strong

Responsibilities

  • Conduct welding classes across pre-employment, apprentice, upgrader and service program levels.
  • Select, design, update and construct training aids/materials.
  • Prepare and deliver lessons, assignments, lectures and demonstrations.
  • Evaluate students through exams, assignments and observations; record progress.
  • Supervise students in classroom, shop, labs, tours; university property and activities.
  • Counsel students on program and job opportunities.
  • Assist in equipment maintenance within the program.
  • Assist in inventory management and ordering supplies.

Job Duties
  • Conduct classes in multiple welding processes at the pre-employment, apprentice, upgrader and service program levels as assigned.
  • Select, design, update and construct training aids/materials.
  • Prepare and deliver lessons, assignments, lectures and demonstrations for education purposes.
  • Evaluate students through the use of exams, assignments and observations; and to record student progress.
  • Supervise students in classroom, shop, labs, tours; Saskatchewan Polytechnic property and Saskatchewan Polytechnic sanctioned activities.
  • Counsel students and prospective students on matters pertaining to the program and job opportunities.
  • Assist in/arrange for equipment maintenance within the program.
  • Assist in conducting and maintaining inventory, and in ordering supplies, equipment and books.
  • Attend, whenever possible, staff meetings, trade seminars, workshops, etc. to keep current with industry and educational requirements.
  • Possess good interpersonal skills and a willingness to work in a “team” environment.
  • Communicate orally and on paper, ideas and concepts in an accurate and concise manner.
  • Travel may be required.
Qualifications, Skills, Abilities and Experience
  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Journeyperson Certificate in the Welding trade.
  • Two years’ recent/relevant post-Journeyperson experience as a Welder.
  • Effective instructional ability.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Effective communication skills (written and oral).
  • Able to function as a team member in an ever-changing environment.
  • Demonstrated competence and recent experience in the use of the internet, e-mail, MS Office Suite software and ability to learn and adapt to changing technology.
