Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking candidates for an overnight shift training program focused on waste handling and safety. The role involves entering confined spaces for cleaning, receiving client waste, and ensuring timely processing of materials with strict adherence to SOPs.

Applicants should be physically fit, clean-shaven for respirator use, and comfortable working at heights. The program includes hands-on training, equipment operation, and weekend Hazardous Waste collection events,

Qualifications

• Must be clean shaven for respirator usage.
• Physically fit for repetitive lifting of hoses and soil.
• Comfortable working at heights near catwalks and tanks.

Responsibilities

• 8 weeks of training on the overnight shift.
• Enter confined spaces for cleaning (bulk tanks, tankers, vacuum trucks).
• Receive all client waste, both bulk liquids/solids and containerized.
• Ensure waste is processed in a timely and safe manner.
• Prepare shipments of hazardous and non-hazardous waste for transport.
• Load and unload waste vehicles including vacuum trucks and tankers.
• Take samples from waste for lab analysis.
• Operate plant machinery and assist with maintenance.
• Follow SOPs and complete paperwork correctly and on time.
• Attend Household Hazardous Waste collection events on weekends.

Key Responsibilities:

• 8 Weeks of Training on the overnight shift.
• Be trained to enter Confined Spaces, such as bulk tanks, tankers, and vacuum trucks for cleaning.
• Receive all client waste – both bulk liquids/solids and containerized.
• Ensure waste is processed in a timely and safe manner.
• Prepare shipments of hazardous and non-hazardous waste for transport.
• Ensure incoming waste conforms with acceptance protocol.
• Load and unload waste vehicles including vacuum trucks, tankers, straight trucks, and van trailers.
• Take samples from waste vehicles and containers for lab analysis.
• Operate plant machinery including pumps and pressure washers; and assist with general maintenance.
• Gain a full understanding and working knowledge of the company’s standard operating procedures (SOPs), and ensure they are followed.
• Complete paperwork properly & ensure it is submitted.
• Complete job hazard risk assessments
• Ensure superior customer service is provided.
• General shop clean-up and maintenance.
• Attend Household Hazardous Waste collection events on weekends.
• Other tasks as required.

Requirements:

• Must be clean shaven. (for respirator usage)
• Physically fit (repetitivelifting of hoses and shoveling of soil)
• Must be comfortable working at heights (climbing up to catwalks above tanks to dip them, climbing on top of tankers and trucks to sample them)
