Overnight Processing Facilities Technician - Waste & Sampling

Job summary

GFL Environmental is hiring a Processing Facilities Technician in Canada. The role involves 8 weeks of overnight training, entering confined spaces, receiving and processing client waste, and preparing shipments for transport.

You will operate plant machinery and perform sampling, SOP adherence, and safety paperwork. Responsibilities include loading/unloading waste vehicles, maintaining cleanliness, and participating in Household Hazardous Waste events on weekends.

Qualifications

• Must be clean shaven. (for respirator usage).
• Physically fit (repetitive lifting of hoses and shoveling of soil)
• Must be comfortable working at heights (climbing up to catwalks above tanks to dip them, climbing on top of tankers and trucks to sample them)

Responsibilities

• 8 Weeks of Training on the overnight shift.
• Be trained to enter Confined Spaces, such as bulk tanks, tankers, and vacuum trucks for cleaning.
• Receive all client waste – both bulk liquids/solids and containerized.
• Ensure waste is processed in a timely and safe manner.
• Prepare shipments of hazardous and non-hazardous waste for transport.
• Ensure incoming waste conforms with acceptance protocol.
• Load and unload waste vehicles including vacuum trucks, tankers, straight trucks, and van trailers.
• Take samples from waste vehicles and containers for lab analysis.
• Operate plant machinery including pumps and pressure washers; and assist with general maintenance.
• Gain a full understanding and working knowledge of the company’s standard operating procedures (SOPs), and ensure they are followed.
• Complete paperwork properly & ensure it is submitted.
• Complete job hazard risk assessments
• Ensure superior customer service is provided.
• General shop clean-up and maintenance.
• Attend Household Hazardous Waste collection events on weekends.
• Other tasks as required.
