Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. in Brampton, ON is seeking Chemical Technicians to join a growing team. The technician will drive to various customer sites to pick up, package and label chemical waste for transportation to GFL facilities.

Responsibilities include site visits, waste classification assistance, safe operation of vehicles, and completing paperwork. A university/college degree in a related field is required; a DZ license is an asset, with occasional overnight trips.

Qualifications

• University or college degree in an applicable field – Chemistry, Environmental Affairs, Biology, etc.
• Must be willing to drive every day (this may require 2 overnight trips on average per month).
• Previous lab, sales and industry experience is an asset.
• Competent computer skills.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Characterize, research, pack and label chemical waste for transportation from customer site to GFL facility.
• Provide technical assistance to customers via site visits, sampling and classification of waste materials.
• Operate vehicles and equipment safely in accordance with transportation SOPs and regulations.
• Conduct regular vehicle and equipment inspections and document results.
• Perform lab packing and de-packing duties.
• Complete paperwork including acquiring signatures as required.
• Assist sales and operations with technical information for materials into/out of GFL’s Liquid East facilities.
• Assist with coding and shipments of Lab-Pack materials.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the characterization, research, packing, and labeling of chemical waste for the transportation of the material from the customer site to the applicable GFL facility.
• Provide technical assistance to Customers via site visits, sampling and assisting with the classification of waste materials.
• Operate vehicles and equipment in a safe and proper manner in accordance with GFL Environmental Services Inc. transportation standard operating procedures, and government regulations.
• Conduct regular vehicle and equipment inspections according to requirements and documents.
• Conduct yourself in a professional and cost effective manner at all times.
• Maintain a clean appearance at all times.
• Treat all customers in a courteous and professional manner.
• Abide by the rules and requirements while on customer or GFL property.
• Perform lab packing and de-packing duties.
• Complete all necessary paperwork to complete the job including acquiring signatures as required.
• Assist both sales and operations with Technical information gathering for materials going into or out of GFL’s Liquid East facilities.
• Assist with the coding and shipments of Lab-Pack materials.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:

• University or college degree in an applicable field – Chemistry, Environmental Affairs, Biology, etc.
• Valid G License (DZ an asset). **Must be willing to drive every day (this may require 2 overnight trips on average per month)**
