The Construction Products Group (CPG) division of IAPMO specializes in performing technical evaluations and generating evaluation reports for code compliance of building products/materials and related products, supported by our testing lab and quality assurance programs. CPG provides Evaluation Reports/Listings as evidence that commercial and residential materials, and infrastructure-related products, meet building code requirements.

Description

The Construction Products Group (CPG) is seeking a Technical Sales Specialist to lead growth initiatives within our construction products segment. This role involves identifying, developing, and closing new business opportunities across commercial and residential construction sectors. The ideal candidate understands building materials, manufacturing, building codes, standards, and has a proven track record in B2B solution selling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and pursue new business evaluation opportunities in the construction industry, including building, construction, and related products.
  • Conduct market research to uncover customer needs, competitor positioning, and emerging trends.
  • Develop a pipeline of qualified prospects through cold calling, networking, referrals, and targeted campaigns.
  • Engage customers with a consultative sales approach, evaluating their products, and recommending paths to successful evaluation, often involving engineering consultation, laboratory testing, and quality assurance program development.
  • Collaborate with internal teams involved with engineering evaluation, laboratory testing, and quality assurance.
  • Support post-sale relationships to ensure satisfaction, retention, and upselling opportunities.
  • Represent CPG at industry trade shows, events, and customer sites as needed.

Qualifications - Experience, Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, structural, or architectural engineering, or equivalent education and experience.
  • At least 4 years of relevant experience in the building products industry.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, self-motivate, and work independently.
  • Basic knowledge of codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong consultative and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with customers and partners.
  • Attention to detail in information management.
  • Proficiency in routine reports, correspondence, and effective communication.
  • Willingness to travel for conferences, meetings, and events.
  • Proficient with Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet research.
  • Knowledge of building materials/system certification and evaluation report processes is a plus.
  • Experience with CRM software is preferred.
