Job summary

MicroSurvey, a leading geospatial software solutions provider, seeks a Technical Sales Representative to manage a North American territory, engaging with existing customers and developing new business across surveying, construction, and civil engineering markets. You will deliver product demonstrations and technical guidance to support customer decisions.

This role emphasizes relationship-building, accurate forecasting, and territory planning, with travel across Canada and the United States.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in surveying or geomatics.
  • 3–5 years of experience in business development or sales.
  • Experience with geospatial CAD/GIS products preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute sales strategies to achieve territory objectives and revenue targets.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities through prospecting and relationship-building with direct customers and dealers.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with existing customers, suppliers, and industry associations through consultative selling and promotion of MicroSurvey Software products and services.
  • Assess client requirements and recommend appropriate programs, products, and services to meet their needs.
  • Deliver technical information, guidance, and product demonstrations to support customer decision-making.
  • Respond promptly to inbound inquiries and actively generate new leads through outbound calls and cold calling.
  • Provide accurate sales forecasts and pipeline updates to the Sales Manager.
  • Plan and execute regional marketing initiatives, training programs, and customer/dealer demonstrations to drive brand growth.
  • Represent the company at industry trade shows within the assigned territory.

Job description

The Technical Sales Representative is responsible for managing an assigned sales territory to drive profitable growth. The role involves engaging with existing customers and developing new business opportunities within North America’s surveying, construction, and civil engineering sectors.

Responsibilities include maintaining strong relationships with current clients while actively expanding the customer base. Success in this position requires increasing market share for both new and existing products, achieving or exceeding annual sales and profit margin targets, and fostering long-term customer loyalty.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Territory Sales and Growth (70%)
  • Develop and execute sales strategies to achieve territory objectives and revenue targets.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities through research, prospecting, and relationship-building with direct customers and dealers.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with existing customers, suppliers, and industry associations through consultative selling and promotion of MicroSurvey Software products and services.
  • Assess client requirements and recommend appropriate programs, products, and services to meet their needs.

Account Management (10%)
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned accounts and dealers.
  • Identify opportunities for add-on, cross-product, and new product sales within existing accounts.
  • Communicate lost sales opportunities and market changes to internal teams, ensuring alignment on priorities and strategies for future growth.
Business Planning and Territory Management (10%)
  • Develop an annual business plan for the territory, incorporating cross-functional needs and strategic objectives.
  • Analyze customer data and market trends to identify opportunities and challenges, leveraging company resources for solutions.
  • Report new product ideas, competitive insights, and emerging market trends to support innovation and growth.
Administration (10%)
  • Maintain accurate records of communications and opportunities in CRM (ACT).
  • Submit monthly and quarterly business updates to the Sales Manager.
  • Complete expense reports in a timely manner.
  • Manage demo equipment, loaner requests, and sample distribution.
  • Participate in sales meetings to provide territory updates and feedback.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES

  • Comprehensive understanding of the sales process, including prospecting, negotiation, and closing techniques.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation abilities; high proficiency in English required.
  • Familiarity with MicroSurvey solutions (e.g., MicroSurvey CAD, STAR*NET, FieldGenius) is considered an asset.
  • Technical proficiency with computers and software, including the ability to effectively demonstrate software solutions.
  • Ability to travel within Canada and the United States as required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Post-secondary education (Technical Diploma or Degree) in one of the following disciplines:
  • Surveying or Geomatics
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in business development or sales within a related field.
  • Prior sales experience in geospatial products such as CAD, data collection, least squares, GIS, or other industry-related solutions preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is a normal office setting, which can be either onsite or from a remote home office.
