Job description

About RBR

At RBR, we’ve been making waves in oceanography since 1973, designing cutting-edge instruments to measure our blue planet. Built to withstand some of the harshest environments on Earth, our instruments are deployed from the ocean’s deepest trenches to the polar ice caps, capturing essential data on water temperature, salinity, pH, and more. This data empowers researchers worldwide in the fight against climate change, and our technology supports groundbreaking science with partners like Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Scripps Oceanographic Institution, the British Antarctic Survey, and many other key global institutions.

Our global sales organization is built on technical expertise and a passion for ocean science. With a mix of direct offices and vetted technical agents, we work closely with customers to deliver exceptional service, sales, and support. Our team’s diverse scientific and technical backgrounds ensure we can provide tailored solutions to advance water quality and ocean research around the world.

At RBR, we care deeply about our work, each other, the environment, and the global communities we serve. We value teamwork, continuous improvement, and having fun along the way. From Friday lunches to social events, we’re a crew that thrives on taking on complex and exciting challenges that have a meaningful impact on the blue planet! Ready to make waves with us? Apply below!

About the role

We’re looking for an experienced Technical Sales Manager to join our Ottawa team! If you’re passionate about building meaningful relationships, diving into technical challenges, and helping customers make an impact, this role is for you.

As the go-to partner for researchers and organizations, you’ll connect them with RBR’s cutting-edge technology, empowering groundbreaking oceanographic discoveries. Collaborating with a skilled and diverse team, you’ll combine technical expertise with a customer-first mindset to drive growth and deliver exceptional outcomes.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives on solving complex problems, creating tailored solutions, and building partnerships that have a lasting impact. You’ll balance humility with confidence, technical know-how with approachability, and competitiveness with respect - earning trust and delivering win-win solutions that make a real-world impact.

What you’ll do
  • Drive the sales pipeline from lead generation to purchase order, ensuring smooth, effective progress at every stage.

  • Collaborate with the Sales Director to develop and execute strategic plans that exceed sales targets in a specific North America region.

  • Consult directly with end customers and local agents to deliver high-quality quotes, proposals, and solutions tailored to their needs.

  • Act as a trusted advisor by meeting customers on-site, building strong relationships, and helping them succeed in their missions.

  • Engage in respectful debates with customers and agents to guide decision-making for successful oceanographic deployments.

  • Expand market share through diligent prospecting and fostering long-term partnerships.

  • Work cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, R&D, Operations, and Finance to deliver an outstanding customer experience.

  • Represent the RBR brand and values at conferences, trade shows, and workshops, showcasing our innovative solutions and expertise.

What you bring
  • A degree in sciences or engineering (BSc, MSc, or PhD) or equivalent experience in high-level technical sales.

  • Ideally, 5+ years of technical sales experience, preferably in oceanographic, marine geophysics, or related scientific instrumentation fields.

  • Proven ability to work directly with academic institutions, government agencies, and private organizations.

  • Experience collaborating with end customers and through local agents to deliver exceptional sales results.

  • A customer-focused mindset paired with a sense of urgency, passion, and purpose.

  • A talent for finding better ways—for customers and for RBR—through innovative thinking and problem-solving.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills that inspire trust and foster lasting partnerships.

  • Readiness to travel up to 25% within North America, primarily in Eastern Canada and the United States.

Nice to have
  • Experience in ocean technology and measurement.

  • Degree in Oceanography or a related field.

  • Familiarity with CRM systems; Salesforce experience is a plus.
