Overview

A Technical Project Manager at Big Fish Games is responsible for the planning and execution of projects and initiatives, managing workflows and communicating issues and status. The execution of the projects is typically across one or more teams. The TPM will communicate in various formal and informal methods to convey project status, issues, conflicts and risks. The TPM will work with various business stakeholders and Product Managers, and Technical Managers to plan projects. As part of the initiatives or projects they lead, the TPM will help investigate technical issues and ideas. The outcomes of the investigation are actioned through strike teams or other change management methods. These outcomes are often outside of the TPM's subject matter expertise. The TPM bridges technical team feedback to business stakeholders. The TPM is highly aware of the business needs and requests and makes sure they are logged and presented appropriately to the technical team(s). They work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, developers, designers, and stakeholders, to ensure project goals are met on time and within budget. Expertise in project management, technical knowledge, and strong communication skills are keys to success in this role.

What You'll Do

  • Project Planning : Develop detailed project plans, including scope, timelines, and resource allocation, to ensure successful project execution.
  • Team Leadership : Lead and motivate cross-functional project teams, fostering a collaborative and results-driven work environment.
  • Risk Management : Identify potential project risks and proactively implement mitigation strategies to minimize project disruptions.
  • Stakeholder Communication : Maintain clear and open communication with project stakeholders, providing regular updates on project status, risks, and progress.
  • Budget Management : Monitor project budgets and ensure that projects are completed within budgetary constraints.
  • Quality Assurance : Oversee quality control processes to ensure that project deliverables meet established standards and objectives.
  • Technical Expertise : Possess a deep understanding of the technical aspects of the project, allowing you to make informed decisions and guide the team effectively.
  • Change Management : Adapt to changing project requirements and priorities while ensuring minimal impact on project delivery.
  • Documentation : Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including project plans, status reports, and issue logs.
  • Business acumen : Works with leadership to define KPIs and targets for teams and projects.
  • Analytics : Deliver timely reports regarding team performance, individual and team productivity, task completion rates, and any issues or challenges that impact performance, providing data to predict capacity and recommend accurate resource plans.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience (4+ years) as a Technical Project Manager or similar in the technology industry
  • Strong understanding of technical concepts and the ability to communicate effectively with technical teams.
  • Proficiency in project management software tools (e.g. Smartsheet, JIRA).
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem solving skills
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven experience with agile methodologies
  • Fully proficient in tactical process definition, implementation, rollout, and iteration of major processes / tools with some guidance.
  • Ability to plan both shorter, tactical timelines and longer deliverables.
  • Extensive knowledge in ability to choose the right project methodology or mix of methodologies based on project needs.
  • Extensive knowledge of risk management and communication for multiple project streams.
  • Ability to define appropriate project metrics.
  • Fully proficient in modifying communication style to audience.
  • Ability to define documentation guidelines for processes, tools, business requirements, and specifications.
  • Experience as a member of a high performing technical team, demonstrating an ability to collaborate across functional areas to define scope, requirements, deliverables, dependencies, and risk mitigation.
  • Ability to predict challenges and seek to proactively head-off obstacles.

Preferred Skills and Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Business).
  • PMP or other project management certification
  • Agile or scrum certification
