Job summary

Thales Group in Halifax, Canada is seeking a Technical Material Expediter for a hybrid role. Responsible for ensuring material availability, coordinating with service leads, and managing BOM reviews to support maintenance work.

The role requires Defence contract experience, ERP system familiarity (SAP/MAXIMO), strong communication skills, and attention to detail. Hybrid work arrangement and a competitive compensation package are offered.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in Military/Defence projects or contracts.
  • Excellent communication and people skills; adept at interfacing between multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong computer literacy; proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with SAP, MAXIMO, or other ERP systems.
  • Experience with Defence Resource Management Information System (DRMIS) is a plus.
  • Strong clerical skills, high attention to detail, and ability to multi‑task autonomously.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Experience in procurement, finance, project management, or supply chain & warehousing.

Responsibilities

  • Generate and update a materials availability schedule for each Service Lead.
  • Create material demand in Thales systems and track reservations.
  • Review BOMs for maintenance periods and request changes.
  • Set material priority and escalate to Service Delivery Management as needed.
  • Resolve material shortfalls by coordinating with Supply Support and planning teams.
  • Investigate alternative sources to obtain outstanding materials.
  • Raise requisitions for materials and equipment for maintenance activities.
  • Track material availability and communicate impacts to the service team.
  • Initiate obsolescence processes when required.
  • Participate in team meetings and advise on material status and remedial actions.
  • Complete tasks within time and cost constraints to meet KPIs.

Technical Material Expediter (Hybrid)

Location: Halifax - Wilkinson, Canada

Regulatory Compliance Requirements

Requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software, or technical data controlled under the Canadian Export Control List, the ITAR or the EAR. Requires a positive Controlled Goods assessment and the ability to obtain and maintain a NATO Secret Security Clearance.

Position Summary

The Technical Material Expediter ensures all customer‑facing service delivery work has the required materials and coordinates alternate sources when the primary source is unavailable.

Key Areas of Responsibility
  • Generate, communicate and update a work‑period focused materials availability schedule for each Service Lead.
  • Create material demand in the Thales systems, track and update reservations to support work items.
  • Review Bills‑of‑Material (BOMs) for Preventative Maintenance Short Work Periods and request changes as required.
  • Set material priority and escalate to Service Delivery Management when required.
  • Resolve material requirements that are unavailable for the work, coordinating with Supply Support Specialists, the Material Demand Planner, and the Service Lead.
  • Investigate and advise on alternative methods of obtaining outstanding material where required.
  • Raise requisitions for material and equipment required to support maintenance activities.
  • Track material availability and delivery dates for each service period and communicate impacts to the service team.
  • Initiate the materials obsolescence process when required.
  • Participate in regular team meetings, advising on material status and recommending remedial action for any potential issues.
  • Complete assigned tasks within time and cost constraints to meet contracted KPI requirements in accordance with Thales policy.
  • Participate in root‑cause investigations for material, as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by Management.
Minimum Qualifications
  • At least 3 years’ experience working with the Military and/or on a Defence contract or project.
  • Excellent communication and people skills; adept at interfacing between multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel.
  • Previous experience working with SAP, MAXIMO, or other ERP systems.
  • Experience with the Defence Resource Management Information System (DRMIS) is an asset.
  • Strong clerical skills, high attention to detail, and ability to multi‑task and work autonomously.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Experience working within procurement, finance, project management, or supply chain & warehousing environments.
  • Open‑mindedness, active listening, and a willingness to share ideas while adding innovation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Defence industry experience.
  • Knowledge of material logistics methods and implementation.
Special Position Requirements

Must meet all federal government requirements to access Canadian government facilities, including naval dockyards.

Schedule

40 hours per week.

Physical Environment

Hybrid: a mix of working from home and on‑site (in office, at customer sites, or on board ships or in harbour).

Total Target Compensation (TTC)

Annual market range inclusive of base salary and variable compensation target: $70,000–$85,000 CAD.
