Job summary

Thales in Halifax is seeking a Material Demand Planner to receive, implement, and monitor material orders for the program. The role is hybrid, with on-site collaboration and remote work options, and involves interfacing with customers and internal teams to ensure timely material availability.

Responsibilities include coordinating with Procurement, Warehouse, and DRMIS alignment with ERP for invoicing, and generating KPI-driven updates.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-3 years’ experience in the Military or Defence Contract projects.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management.
  • Data-driven decision making and BOM maintenance understanding.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with the customer for material demand and ensure correct placement of demand.
  • Coordinate material orders to program guidelines, optimizing cost and delivery time.
  • Escalate issues to Supply Support Analysts and work with Procurement/Warehouse teams.
  • Ensure material demand is captured in vendor quotes and in ERP systems.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Material Expeditor to meet deadlines.
  • Create material demands and communicate changes to customers as needed.
  • Prioritize and track material reservations to support service work.
  • Coordinate with DND to align DRMIS with Thales ERP for orders and invoicing.
  • Prepare regular KPI reports and participate in root-cause investigations.

Material Demand Planner

Halifax, NS- Hybrid

Regulatory Compliance Requirements
  • Requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software, technology or technical data controlled under the Canadian Export Control List, the ITAR or the EAR
  • Requires a positive Controlled Goods assessment as you will have direct access to hardware, software, technology or technical data controlled under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program
  • Required to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance at the NATO Secret Level
Position Summary

We have a current Vacancy for a Material Demand Planner receives, implements, and monitors status of material orders placed on the Program.

Key Areas of Responsibility
  • Interface for material orders with the customer. Accountable for correct placement of material demand.
  • Ensure materials are ordered to Program guidelines, monitoring for optimal cost and delivery time;
  • Escalate material issues to the Supply Support Analysts;
  • Work with Procurement and Warehouse staff to ensure material demand is correctly identified in vendor quotes;
  • Coordinate with the Technical Material Expediter to ensure that all material is obtained to support work by the required deadlines;
  • Oversee and assist in material order entry and purchase requisition data entry;
  • Create material demands in the Thales material planning systems, and communicates changes to the customer as required;
  • Prioritize, implement, track, and update material reservations to support service work;
  • Coordinate with DND staff to align Defence Resource Management Information System (DRMIS) with Thales ERP system for material orders and invoicing;
  • Participate in regular team meetings, advising on material status, and recommending remedial action for any potential issues;
  • Generate exception reports and provide regular updates on material status to internal and external stakeholders, including KPI requirements from the Program;
  • Participate in root-cause investigations for material, as required;
  • Other duties as assigned by Management
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum 1-3 years’ experience working within the Military or a Defence Contract or project;
  • Excellent communication and people skills, adept at interfacing between multiple internal/external stakeholders;
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions;
  • Thorough understanding of maintenance schedules, including working with bill of materials (BOM);
  • Strong computer literacy, with proven experience with Microsoft Office Suite essential;
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to balance multiple priorities;
  • Experience with the Defence Resource Management Information System (DRMIS) an asset;
  • Previous experience working with IBM Maximo, SAP or other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system;
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to multi-task and work autonomously;
  • Experience working within procurement, or Supply Chain & Warehousing environments; and
  • Open minded and able to listen; share ideas while bringing added value / capturing innovation.
Special Position Requirements
  • Schedule: 40 hours per week
  • Physical Environment: Hybrid position, a mix of working from home and on-site (in office, at customer sites, or on board ships alongside in harbour)
  • Travel: Occasional domestic travel may be required, which will include access to government facilities and assets, including naval vessels

The reference Total Target Compensation (TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target, is between Total Target Cash (TTC) $70,000 - $95,00 CAD Annual.
