Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Technical Manager to lead licensing and engineering activities for a new nuclear build, reporting to the Technical Director of Safety & Licensing on the CANDU MONARK program. The role requires directing multidisciplinary teams, ensuring regulatory compliance, and delivering technically sound proposals.

Qualifications

  • 10 years of engineering experience in a nuclear project environment with regulatory interface.
  • Thorough knowledge of CANDU design and safety analysis in Canada; USA/EU asset.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of Canadian nuclear new build regulations and codes.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute work to meet quality, cost and schedule requirements.
  • Remove barriers to meet project requirements and priorities.
  • Provide technical advice and SME input to staff and management.

  • Forecast resource demands including skills, capabilities and durations.
  • Interface with clients to deliver engineering products per customer specs.
  • Collaborate with marketing and other groups to strengthen client relations.

Job description

Overview

This manager will provide technical management for Licensing activities for a new build Nuclear Power Plant project within a matrix organization. This position reports to the Technical Director, Safety & Licensing and will be assigned to the CANDU MONARK project.

Responsibilities
  • Provide Technical Management Of Individuals And Teams Executing Commercial And Internal Work Packages, Some Of Which May Be Multi-disciplinary, In The Design And Build Phases Of The New Build Project.
  • Approving technical documents prepared by staff working under them.
  • Planning and executing work consistent with quality, cost and schedule requirements.
  • Removing barriers that would impact deliverables to meet project requirements and priorities, working with the assigned staff to find solutions and optimizations.
  • Providing technical advice to staff and as appropriate subject matter expertise to staff and management.
  • Participating in the preparation of commercial proposals and approving the technical content of proposals under their direction related to the new build project.
  • Forecasting resource demands for the assigned work scope, including skills, capabilities, and durations.
  • Interfacing with clients and successfully delivering engineering products in accordance with customer specification and requirements.
  • Working with marketing and other corporate groups to maintain and improve client relationships and offerings.
Qualifications
  • 10 years of engineering experience in a nuclear project environment involving regulatory interface, including experience leading engineering teams.
  • Thorough knowledge of the tools and methods used in CANDU design and/or safety analysis in Canada, with similar knowledge for the USA and the EU an asset.
  • Thorough understanding of the relevant Canadian nuclear new build regulations and Canadian codes and standards used in design.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineering degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, qualified to seal engineering documents.
  • Experience managing and/or performing multidisciplinary work with significant interfacing requirements with interfacing disciplines such as deterministic safety analysis, probabilistic safety analysis, mechanical, electrical/I&C, process control, and civil engineering.
  • Experience working in a nuclear facility licensed in Canada, highly preferable.
  • Willing to travel to and potentially work at Project sites to meet project needs (Note: the initial site location is at the Mississauga head office in Ontario).
