Job summary

Shared Health in Winnipeg is seeking a Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join Diagnostic Imaging for a term position. You will teach clinical skills, coordinate rotations, and serve as Radiation Safety Officer while maintaining core Nuclear Medicine workflows.

Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

Under the administrative direction of the DI Manager and in collaboration with affiliated educational institution’s Program Support/Practicum Liaison Coordinator and Section Head, the incumbent is responsible for:

• Technical Instructor.
  • Clinical Teaching:
    • Teaching, monitoring and evaluating the clinical skills of students, and for the integration of biological, physical, social and medical sciences as they relate to the clinical application of Nuclear Medicine.
  • Program Support:
    • Scheduling students’ clinical rotations, administering and proctoring the clinical exams, supervising and evaluating the students’ competency attainment, assisting the student in problem-solving and conflict resolution during the clinical portion of the program and providing timely oral and written student progress reports. Assisting in the ongoing development of the Nuclear Medicine educational programs. As the need arises, arranges and organizes elective/required Nuclear Medicine rotations for other allied health professionals as well as participates in providing introductory lectures to the same groups.
• Functioning as departmental Radiation Safety Officer.
• Functioning as a General Duty Nuclear Medicine Technologist in order to maintain existing skills and learn new techniques.

Experience

• Minimum of five years previous experience in Nuclear Medicine with a high-degree of technical expertise and in-depth knowledge of this field is required.
• Experience in teaching and/or teaching certificate would be an asset.
• Experience in monitoring and handling radioactive material required.
• Radiation safety program experience in a medical or academic environment preferred.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

• Completed high school education, Manitoba Standard's, required.
• Graduation from an accredited Nuclear Medicine program.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

• Registered and in good standing with and certified as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist by the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) while employed with the Centre.
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods of time without resting.
• Must demonstrate the use of safe and effective body mechanics while working with clients.
• Must be able to safely transfer large and/or heavy clients who may have limited or no weight bearing capabilities.
• Must be able to lift and position clients, some of whom are in a state of unconsciousness.
• May be exposed to radiation (within acceptable limits).
• May be exposed to extreme client injuries.
• May be required to occasionally work extended hours.
• May be exposed to infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, toxic materials, noise, allergens, physical and emotional stress.
• May encounter aggressive and/or agitated clients/visitors/staff.

This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment.
