Job summary

Small Axe Studios, 2K's newest stand-alone studio in Burnaby, is seeking an experienced Technical Designer to bridge design and engineering, prototype gameplay systems, and build robust content workflows.

You will collaborate with engineers, designers, and production leadership to deliver player-driven experiences, script gameplay behaviors, and optimize toolchains for faster iteration.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience in technical design or related gameplay implementation roles.
  • Deep expertise with scripting systems (e.g., Unreal Blueprint).
  • Proven ability to implement gameplay systems from prototype through ship.
  • Good understanding of game systems, mechanics, and their interactions.
  • Experience working in collaboration with engineers, especially on feature integrations.
  • Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and optimization skills.
  • Strong documentation habits and ability to explain technical solutions to non-technical teammates.
  • A proactive, collaborative attitude and a passion for empowering creative teams.

Responsibilities

  • Prototype and implement gameplay systems in collaboration with engineers and gameplay designers.
  • Own the technical implementation of features and script game logic.
  • Optimize workflows and tooling; improve content pipelines and templates.
  • Support other designers with technical guidance and troubleshoot blockers.
  • Collaborate across disciplines with engineering, design, animation, audio and UI/UX teams.
  • Champion the core fantasy vision by prototyping systemic interactions and empowering creativity.
