Job summary

Carlos Goncalves seeks a Technical Business Analyst with Buy‑Side experience for a global IT services firm, focused on portfolio management and the trading lifecycle. Location is downtown Toronto with a hybrid schedule (4 days in office/week) on a 6-month contract with possible renewal.

You will bridge business stakeholders, product owners, and technology teams in an agile environment, translating needs into user stories and acceptance criteria, and engaging with portfolio managers and trading

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Computer Science, Data, or related field.
• Proven BA experience in capital markets with portfolio management and trade lifecycle.
• Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Gather and analyze business needs from portfolio managers, middle office, and trading desks.
• Translate requirements into functional specs, process flows, and user stories with acceptance criteria.
• Refine and prioritize the backlog with the Product Owner.
• Support delivery of solutions that improve efficiency, transparency, and compliance in collateral processes.
• Review source-code to validate process workflows.
• Communicate status updates to senior management and stakeholders.
• Drive agile best practices and break down stories for sprints.

This is with a global IT services firm for a very large investment fund with global reach.

Location: downtown Toronto, near TTC and GO Train

Hybrid work - 4 days in office/week

Contract - 6 months, possible renewal

Rate: $65 to 85hr B2B

Project description

We are seeking a Technical Business Analyst with Buy‑Side experience and strong expertise in portfolio management and trading lifecycle. The successful candidate will act as a bridge between business stakeholders, product owners, and technology teams, ensuring effective delivery of initiatives in an agile environment.

BA who is more focused working with Front Office and Portfolio Management Systems from a Portfolio Manager perspective. For example, entering orders to balance or hedge portfolios; life cycle of a variety of asset classes.

Responsibilities

• Business Analysis & Requirements Gathering
• Engage with portfolio managers, middle office, and trading desks to capture and analyze business needs.
• Translate requirements into clear functional specifications, process flows, and user stories with acceptance criteria.
• Partner with the Product Owner to refine and prioritize the backlog in line with strategic objectives.
• Support delivery of solutions that strengthen efficiency, transparency, and compliance in collateral processes.
• Review source-code to validate and/or extract process workflows
• Track progress, remove blockers, and promote agile best practices.
• Break down stories into sizable pieces for Sprint length
• Drive continuous improvement within the team.
• Stakeholder Management & Delivery
• Act as a key liaison between business stakeholders and technology teams.
• Ensure timely delivery of features and initiatives, highlighting risks and dependencies.
• Communicate status updates and findings clearly to senior management and stakeholders.

Must have Experience/Skills:

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Computer Science, Data, or related field.
• Proven experience as a Business Analyst in capital markets, with a solid understanding of the portfolio management and trade lifecycle.
• Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
• Collaborative, proactive, and adaptable to dynamic business needs.
• Outcome-focused, with the ability to balance business priorities and technical constraints.
• Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.

Nice to have

• Strong data analysis skills, including ability to query, validate, and interpret datasets.
• Familiarity with portfolio management systems such as Bloomberg, Charles River, Blackrock Aladin.
• Agile certification (CSM, PSM)
