Help improve the systems behind healthcare in Yukon

Yukon Hospitals is looking for an experienced Technical Analyst to join the team responsible for supporting the technology used across our hospitals.

Reporting to the Manager of Information Systems, this position operates within a Help Desk environment, providing technical troubleshooting and support to staff across Yukon Hospitals. The Technical Analyst supports workstation, server, endpoint, network and telecommunications technologies and works closely with the Network Analyst on broader infrastructure operations.

The role works closely with Information Services colleagues, hospital staff and vendors to troubleshoot problems, configure and maintain technology, support infrastructure operations and help ensure staff have reliable access to the systems and devices they need to do their work.

What you’ll do

The work combines Help Desk and end-user support with hands-on technical and infrastructure responsibilities, including:

  • Responding to technical support requests and troubleshooting hardware, software, peripheral and connectivity issues;
  • Configuring, deploying, maintaining and repairing workstations, laptops, printers and other end-user technologies;
  • Supporting Windows operating systems, enterprise software and user devices;
  • Assessing staff technology needs and recommending appropriate hardware and software solutions;
  • Supporting server, network, telecommunications, backup and other infrastructure operations;
  • Documenting technical issues, solutions, procedures and equipment information;
  • Helping staff understand and effectively use new technology; and
  • Working alongside the Network Analyst and Programmer Analyst on infrastructure support.

Some days will involve working through a queue of technical support requests; others may involve deploying new equipment, troubleshooting a more complex system or connectivity issue, testing an update, or working alongside the Network Analyst or Programmer Analyst on an infrastructure change or project.

Why this work matters

Technology is embedded throughout hospital operations. Staff depend on reliable workstations, devices, communications and connectivity to access information and deliver care.

The Technical Analyst is one of the key client-facing roles within Information Systems, and the quality and timeliness of that support can directly affect staff access to critical information and communications.

This is an opportunity to solve a wide variety of technical problems, work directly with the people using the technology you support and build experience across a broad hospital technology environment.

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for someone with strong technical troubleshooting skills, experience working in a Help Desk or end-user support environment, and a broad understanding of enterprise technology.

The successful candidate will bring:

  • A diploma or degree in Information Systems, Network or Communications Systems, or a related field, combined with relevant technical support and infrastructure experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered;
  • Experience providing Help Desk and technical support to end users, including diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, operating system, peripheral and connectivity issues;
  • Experience configuring, deploying, maintaining and troubleshooting Windows-based workstations, end-user devices and enterprise software;
  • Knowledge of server, networking, desktop and virtualization technologies;
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills;
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and work independently while knowing when to involve other technical resources;
  • Strong communication, documentation and customer-service skills, including the ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical users; and
  • The ability to help users understand and effectively use new technology.

Experience with enterprise networking, telecommunications or infrastructure operations would be an asset, particularly for candidates interested in developing broader infrastructure expertise.

We’re looking for someone who is comfortable moving between helping an individual user, troubleshooting a more complex system issue and working alongside other Information Services professionals on infrastructure and technology improvements.

Working at Yukon Hospitals

This position is based in Whitehorse and supports technology infrastructure across our hospitals in Whitehorse, Dawson City and Watson Lake.

Working in a smaller health system provides an opportunity to develop experience across a broad technology environment. The Technical Analyst works with endpoints, servers, network connectivity, telecommunications and other technologies while collaborating with other members of the Information Services team.

The role includes occasional travel to our hospitals for technical support, equipment deployments and projects, as well as potential travel outside Yukon for training or conferences.

Working in a 24/7 hospital environment requires participation in an on-call rotation, as well as occasional evening and weekend work to support technical issues, system changes, upgrades and downtime activities.

Relocation assistance may be available for eligible candidates. Employees also benefit from a Yukon bonus, defined-benefit pension plan and professional development opportunities, along with practical perks such as free on-site parking and an on-site cafeteria.

If you’re an experienced technical support professional who enjoys solving problems, working with people and supporting technology that healthcare teams depend on, we’d like you to consider joining our team.
