Team Leader - Registered Nurse (RN) Ambulatory Care Centre

The Team Leader position reports to the Patient Care Manager. The Team Leader is accountable for providing expertise and leadership for the Ambulatory Care Centre. The Team Leader assumes a charge role and facilitates the most efficient utilization of staff, clinic rooms, equipment/supplies and flow of patients through the ambulatory care centre. The Team Leader will utilize advanced clinical knowledge in identifying and leading process and quality improvement projects, ensuring all processes are carried out according to established standards of practice.

In addition, the Team Leader ensures clinical processes are carried out for each patient according to established standards. The Team Leader works collaboratively with nurses, physicians, support staff, and the interprofessional team to ensure the provision of high quality patient care. The Team Leader reviews and aids in the collection and analysis of statistics, and the development of standards of care. They act as a liaison with physicians and other stakeholders to address issues specific to new procedures, supplies/equipment and protocol reviews. The Team Leader provides a supportive learning environment for all staff, students, volunteers and visitors.

Qualifications

  • Currently registered in good standing with the Ontario College of Nurses.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree required.
  • Current BLS certificate required, ACLS preferred.
  • Experience leading and implementing quality improvement initiative. Quality Improvement certification preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years¿ experience in an acute nursing setting required.
  • Minimum 5 years Medical/Surgical experience required; Nursing experience in IV therapy, venipuncture, and blood transfusion, ENT, wound management, preferred.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced ambulatory clinic setting is preferred.
  • RN Team Leader or other leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Solid understanding of ambulatory care workflows, clinic scheduling, resource planning, and patient flow
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to de-escalate conflict, facilitate meetings/huddles, and foster a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to make timely decisions, manage competing priorities, and implement creative solutions to operational challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability in time management, critical thinking, problem solving, team building, leadership, conflict resolution and change management.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach staff using adult learning principles.
  • Commitment towards professional development.
  • Ability to juggle multiple competing priorities in a calm effective manor
  • Must posses excellent proficiency in computer applications and systems
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, data analysis and reporting functions
  • In-depth understanding of Physician/nursing work flow in in EPIC
  • Satisfactory attendance record.
