Job summary

Brock University is seeking Teaching Assistants, Course Coordinators and Lab Demonstrators. Compensation varies by degree held: undergraduate rate at $23.30/hour or graduate rate at $36.67/hour, effective September 1, 2026.

Duties include classroom support, lab assistance, grading, exam proctoring and student consultations in accordance with CUPE Local 4207. Flexible on-campus arrangements noted.

Qualifications

• Must have MBAB5P11 or ITIS 4P21 with a minimum of 80% overall course grade.
• Proficient with MS-Office applications, especially Excel and Access.
• Knowledge of data mining software WEKA and Orange.
• Familiar with Brightspace for lab materials, assignments and tests.
• Excellent English language skills; prior TA experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist with teaching activities in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207 Collective Agreement.
• Provide scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom support such as material preparation and grading.
• Support lab sessions and course administration as required.

Compensation

Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.

Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $ 23.30 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 202 6 )

Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $ 36.67 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 202 6 )

In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant's duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.

Duties

The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These are made up of scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required).

Qualifications

• Must have completed MBAB5P11 or ITIS 4P21 with a minimum of 80% overall course grade.
• Must have knowledge of MS-office applications, particularly: MS-EXCEL AND MS-ACCESS.
• Must have knowledge of the data mining software - WEKA
• Must have knowledge of the data mining software - Orange
• Must be familiar with the basic functions of Brightspace to guide students with the uploading and/or downloading of files related to lab practices, assignments and lab tests.
• Excellent English Language Skills.
• Previous TA experience would be an asset.
• Academic Integrity and Professionalism.
• Proven track record of working effectively and completing assigned tasks in a timely manner.
