Job summary

Brock University is recruiting Teaching Assistants for the CUPE4207-1 Employee Group within Enterprise Infrastructure Architecture. Rates are governed by degree: undergraduate at $23.30/hour and graduate at $36.67/hour, with additional TA duties compensated as appropriate.

Work revolves around scheduled student contact, seminar prep, grading, proctoring, and course administration. Flexible terms apply based on enrolments and budget.

Qualifications

• Must have completed MBAB5P11, MBAB5P12, MBAB5P13 with a minimum of 80%, respectively.
• Previous experience as a TA.
• Knowledge of coding in Python is an asset.
• Must have knowledge of cloud computing and its applications such as AWS.
• Must have knowledge of distributed computing systems such as Apache Hadoop.
• Must have knowledge of NoSQL database management systems such as Mongo DB.
• Must be familiar with the basic functions of Sakai to guide students with the uploading and/or downloading of files related to lab practices, assignments and lab tests.
• Academic Integrity and Professionalism.
• Proven track record of working effectively and completing assigned tasks in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

• The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement.
• Scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required).
• Positions listed on this posting are subject to course enrolments and budgetary approval.
• As per Article 22.04 of the Collective Agreement: Members shall not exceed the maximum number of regular hours allowable.
• The Collective Agreement governs part-time Instructor, Teaching Assistant, Lab Demonstrator, Course Coordinator and Marker-Grader positions at Brock University.

Compensation

• Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $ 23.30 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 202 6 )
• Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $ 36.67 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 202 6 )
• In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant's duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.
