Job summary

Brock University is seeking Teaching Assistants, Course Coordinators and Lab Demonstrators for the Fundamentals of Database Design & Management under CUPE4207-1. Rates vary by degree held, with undergraduate and graduate pay scales effective Sept 1, 2026.

This on-campus posting requires TA duties, seminar prep, grading, and office hours, with standard collective agreement terms. Preference given to candidates with TA experience and strong MS-SQL Server, Excel and Access skills, plus familiarity

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy in the CUPE4207-1 (Employee Group) Fundamentals of Database Design & Management

Compensation

• Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.
• Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate – $ 23.30 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2026)
• Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate – $ 36.67 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2026)
• In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant's duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.

Duties

• The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These are made up of scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required).

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a TA and knowledge of the following software:
• Must have knowledge of the database software - MS-SQL SERVER
• Must have knowledge of MS-office applications, particularly: MS-EXCEL and MS-ACCESS.
• Must be familiar with the basic functions of Sakai to guide students with the uploading and/or downloading of files related to lab practices, assignments and lab tests.
• Academic Integrity and Professionalism.
• Proven track record of working effectively and completing assigned tasks in a timely manner.

Positions and Agreements

As per Article 22.04 of the Collective Agreement: Members shall not accept any appointment which, taken together with all other appointments at the University, would cause the member to exceed the maximum number of regular hours (i.e., not overtime hours) allowable in a work week under the Employment Standards Act, as amended from time to time.
