Job summary

Compensation
  • Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.
  • Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $ 23.30 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 202 6 )
  • Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $ 36.67 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 202 6 )
  • In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant's duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.
Duties

The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These are made up of scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required).

Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a TA and knowledge of the following software:
  • Must be able to checks DFDs and ERDs for accuracy using Lucid charts.
  • Must know how to formulate systems requirements.
  • Must have knowledge of web-based databases such as Zoho or Kohezion.
  • Must have knowledge of MS-office applications, particularly: MS-EXCEL and MS-ACCESS.
  • Must be familiar with the basic functions of Brightspace and TopHat to guide students with the uploading and/or downloading of files related to lab practices, assignments and lab tests.
  • Previous TA experience would be an asset.
  • Academic Integrity and Professionalism.
  • Proven track record of working effectively and completing assigned tasks in a timely manner.

As per Article 22.04 of the Collective Agreement: Members shall not accept any appointment which, taken together with all other appointments at the University, would cause the member to exceed the maximum number of regular hours (i.e., not overtime hours) allowable in a work week under the Employment Standards Act, as amended from time to time.
