Job summary

Umbrella Family and Child Centres of Hamilton is seeking a Teaching Assistant for a permanent, part-time role at the Sir Wilfrid Laurier Centre in Hamilton. You will support teachers, welcome families, and help create a safe, welcoming learning environment.

Duties include assisting in Infant, Toddler, or Preschool rooms, serving snacks, tidying spaces, and following daily plans to support children's growth. The role emphasizes teamwork, flexibility, and a commitment to nurturing young learners.

• Knowledge of How Does Learning Happen? and the ability to apply it in practice.

Responsibilities

• Meet and greet children and families at drop-off.
• Assist staff as they arrive, including helping in classrooms or other areas of the centre.
• Provide support in assigned classrooms, including Infant, Toddler, or Preschool rooms, based on daily operational needs.
• Deliver and serve snacks, tidy classrooms, or support other centre needs as assigned.
• Follow the plans for the day and support children’s learning and engagement.
• Adapt to different duties as required by the centre’s schedule and needs.
• Be flexible and ready to support co-workers and the centre wherever help is required.

Schedule

Monday-Friday, 7:45am - 9:30am

Pay Rate (per Collective Agreement, includes wage grants)

$23.79 per hour

About the Role

As a Teacher’s Assistant, you are a key support to the classroom, the children, and the centre. Your flexibility, care, and teamwork help maintain a positive, organized, and safe environment for all. Duties vary from centre to centre, but your contributions will always make a meaningful impact.
