Job summary

We are currently seeking a talented individual to join the Hidden Valley Elementary School team as a teacher at, HVES. HVES is a welcoming, connected school community where engaged students develop their sense of identity and belonging. Every student develops the skills to be successful in literacy and numeracy because of our commitment to nurturing the whole child, in a joyful, inclusive, and culturally rich environment that values and respects Yukon First Nations ways of knowing, doing, and being.

Essential Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Education or equivalent
• Teaching experience in an intermediate classroom with students performing at a wide range of achievement levels and diverse learning styles, including multiple students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Student Learning Plans (SLPs), and Behavior Support Plans (BSPs)
• Experience with individual assessment of literacy development through structured literacy and numeracy assessment in a K-7 school.
• Experience infusing First Peoples ways of Knowing, Doing and Being into the curriculum to support and instruct students.
• Experience in the design and implementation of differentiated programming for diverse needs
• Experience collaborating in a shared learning environment with other school team members
• Demonstrated understanding and application of Neurosequential Model in Education (NME) / Ready to Learn practices, including creating regulation-supportive environments and recognizing that behaviour is communication would be considered an asset

• Willingness and ability to work as a member of a team and to participate in the total school programs and initiatives.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish trusting relationships and work with students, parents, staff members, administrators, and consultants.
• Knowledge and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of the First Nations people of Yukon and a culturally diverse student population.
• Experience and/or willingness to incorporate the outdoors into the curriculum
• Ability to adapt curriculum to meet the needs of students with neurodiversity’s with a range of learning styles and abilities and to meet the needs of students with Individual Educational Plans.
• Strong planning and organizational skills;
• A strong commitment to the practice of differentiated instruction, universal design for learning, and ongoing assessment within the classroom to meet student needs.
• Strong commitment to and proven dedication to support the philosophy, values and beliefs of Hidden Valley Elementary school.

Conditions of Employment

This is a designated position within the Yukon public service which requires the following conditions(s) of employment:

• Successful applicants will be required to undergo a security clearance including vulnerable sector check.
• To be a Teacher in Yukon, you must be certified in another Canadian province/ territory first.
• Yukon First Nations 101 to be completed within one year.
• Class 5 Drivers License or equivalent

Additional Information

• Candidates who possess qualifications, skills, and personal attributes that are appropriate for the assignment who do not hold a valid teaching certificate, at request, may be granted a letter of permission as a teacher issued in accordance with the Education Act.
• Qualified applicants for teacher vacancies shall be hired based Article 49 Teacher Priority Hiring of the Yukon Association of Education Professionals Collective Agreement.
