Job description

Who we are

At Wagepoint, we're good people. It's easy to feel that way when you're surrounded by folks doing the best work of their careers, building great payroll software for small businesses across Canada.

Our team brings together diverse backgrounds, perspectives, experiences, and ideas to make payroll the easiest part of running a business.

We're remote-first, growing, and looking for passionate people who don't settle for the first solution or the way it's been done before. We care deeply about our customers and each other, and understand that when it comes to payroll, getting it right matters.

Our values guide how we work and what we expect from one another:

  • Cultivate Impact by focusing on what matters most and delivering meaningful outcomes for our customers.
  • Unify as One Team by collaborating openly, communicating clearly, and rallying around shared goals.
  • Stay Curious and Kind by challenging assumptions, learning quickly, and leading with empathy.

If you want to build the future of payroll in a place where your ideas are welcomed and your contributions matter, look no further!

The role at high level

We’re looking for a talented Talent Acquisition Specialist who enjoys tackling hard problems and wants to create meaningful impact for small businesses across Canada. In this role, you’ll manage full-cycle recruitment for roles across Wagepoint, from intake to offer, partnering closely with hiring managers to find great people and give every candidate a positive experience. You will report directly to our Talent Acquisition Team Lead.

Note: This is a 6-month temporary full-time contract position ending in April 2027.

What you’ll be expected to own
  • Managing full-cycle recruitment for a portfolio of 4–6 technical and non-technical roles at a time, from intake through offer, and keeping every search on schedule.
  • Leading intake meetings with hiring managers to define must-have vs. nice-to-have skills, the interview plan, compensation range, and timelines before a search launches.
  • Proactively sourcing active and passive candidates through LinkedIn Recruiter, Boolean search, referrals, communities, and events, and building talent pools for recurring and hard-to-fill roles.
  • Reviewing applications and running recruiter screens that assess skills, experience, motivation, and alignment with our values, then moving qualified candidates forward quickly.
  • Designing and coordinating structured, competency-based interview processes (including skills assessments or case exercises where relevant), preparing interview panels, and facilitating timely debriefs.
  • Preparing and extending approved offers, guiding candidates through the details, and escalating complex negotiations to the Team Lead.
  • Delivering a timely, transparent, and respectful experience for every candidate, including closing the loop with those who aren’t moving forward.
  • Keeping our ATS accurate and up to date, and sharing pipeline updates and recruitment metrics with hiring managers and the Team Lead.
  • Making sure our hiring practices meet Canadian employment standards, human rights, accessibility, pay transparency, and privacy (PIPEDA) requirements, and applying inclusive hiring practices at every stage.
  • Gathering feedback from hiring managers and candidates after each hire, and helping improve our recruitment workflows, templates, and guides.
  • Partnering with People Ops, Marketing, and hiring managers on employer branding, interviewer coaching, workforce planning, DEI initiatives, and smooth handoffs from offer to day one.
What you bring to the table
  • 2–3 years of recruitment experience, ideally in-house supporting tech or SaaS hiring.
  • A degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven experience recruiting across a mix of technical (e.g., engineering, product, data) and non-technical (e.g., sales, customer success, G&A) roles, with enough technical awareness to screen effectively and partner with hiring teams.
  • Strong sourcing skills, including Boolean search, LinkedIn Recruiter, referrals, and communities, and a track record of building diverse pipelines.
  • Hands‑on experience with an Applicant Tracking System (e.g., Teamtailor, Greenhouse, Lever) and comfort using recruitment data to spot bottlenecks and report progress.
  • Experience running structured, competency-based interviews and supporting offers within established compensation guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of Canadian employment standards, human rights, accessibility, pay transparency, and privacy (PIPEDA) requirements as they apply to hiring.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; you’re clear, warm, and timely with candidates and stakeholders alike.
  • You use AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or AI features in sourcing and ATS platforms) every day in your recruiting workflow, for things like sourcing, drafting outreach, or summarizing interview notes, while applying sound judgment around fairness and privacy.
  • You’re organized and detail‑oriented, proactive and resourceful, and comfortable juggling multiple searches in a fast‑paced, evolving environment.
  • You’re candidate‑centric, collaborative, and curious, always looking for ways to improve.
Bonus points if
  • You hold a CPHR/CHRP designation or a recruitment certification (e.g., AIRS, LinkedIn Certified Professional – Recruiter), or you’re working toward one.
  • You’ve implemented or optimized AI within talent acquisition processes.
  • You’ve contributed to employer branding, inclusive sourcing partnerships, or recruitment process improvements.
What we bring to the table
  • Impact: Dig in and directly contribute to Wagepoint’s growth and success.
  • Culture: Work alongside a team that genuinely enjoys solving problems together, celebrates wins, supports one another through challenges, and still finds time for the occasional terrible joke.
  • Growth: We believe learning is part of the job. We’re committed to helping you Get Better Every Day (a representation of our Stay Curious and Kind value!) by offering professional development, new experiences, and career growth as we continue to evolve.
  • Innovation: Curiosity and experimentation encouraged! Bring ideas, challenge assumptions, responsibly utilize AI, and help shape better ways of working.
  • Remote: Work from wherever you do your best work. Wagepoint has always been remote‑first, giving you flexibility, autonomy, and hopefully a little extra time with the people (and pets) you love.

Psssst! In 2026, we were recognized as one of Canada's Best Workplaces for Mental Wellness and Inclusion. That commitment extends to our hiring process, where we strive to create an experience that is welcoming, respectful, and inclusive from day one.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, experiences, identities, and perspectives, and we're committed to building a workplace where everyone can thrive.

As a remote company, all interviews are conducted virtually. If you require accommodation at any stage of the recruitment process, please let us know. We're happy to support you!

As part of our hiring process, AI-based tools are used to support the initial review of applications. Rest assured, our People Ops team carefully reviews all applications and makes the final decisions on candidate progression.
