Job summary

Houle Electric Canada in Burnaby, BC, is seeking a Systems Technician to join our Burnaby office. This role specializes in Schneider's EcoStruxure-based control systems to implement building automation, coordinating with Project Managers and field staff, and delivering timely project outcomes.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years in HVAC controls programming and at least 2 years with Schneider EcoStruxure, plus a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering credential.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in HVAC controls programming.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience with Schneider's EcoStruxure platform.
  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree/diploma or certification.
  • Travel approximately 20% to client sites within BC.
  • Strong English written and spoken communication.

About this role

We are recruiting for a Systems Technician to join our Burnaby office.

This role specializes in Schneider's control products to implement building automation controls system for new and renovated buildings as well as upgrades for existing client sites. The successful candidate will be accountable for quality and timely delivery of DDC (Direct Digital Control) programming, configuration, technical troubleshooting, testing and commissioning according to the specifications and design of a building's HVAC system. Technicians will be an active contributor to the project team, escalating any issues or new requests from clients to the Project Manager. The successful candidate will also lead customer training, demos and project close out processes.

This role is required to travel approximately 20% of the time to customer sites within BC.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Read engineering drawings (including but not limited to electrical, mechanical, plumbing IFCs/IFTs) and specifications to develop HVAC control system designs
  • Work with Project Managers, design team and field staff to produce system designs, including shop drawings, programming and graphics
  • Configure, integrate, test, commission and service building automation systems including the integration of various HVAC systems such as chillers and boilers
  • Adhere to best practices, industry standards and Houle's commitment to quality
  • Communicate any changes, site issues or concerns to the project team
  • Efficiently and effectively troubleshoot technical systems
  • Actively contribute to the project team, escalating any issues or new requests from clients to the Project Manager
  • Lead customer training, demos and project close out processes
  • Identify potential business opportunities from interaction with clients
  • Remain familiar with new products, solution versions, upgrades and compatibility
  • Be familiar with system integration capabilities of all Houle offerings and 3rd parties
  • Maintain knowledge of and promote all Houle services
Required experience and skills:
  • 3+ years of experience in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) controls programming required
  • Minimum 2 years' experience working with Schneider's EcoStruxure platform
  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree/diploma or certification
  • Previous field experience in the construction industry and/or large healthcare and hospital projects an asset
  • Self-motivated learner
  • Must thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Must remain calm and professional under pressure
  • Must be organized and able to prioritize and manage many projects at one time
  • Must have excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work well with other people
  • Must have high integrity and demonstrate trustworthiness
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license in good standing with access to a personal vehicle
  • Willing to travel and work in other regions for short periods as needed

Salary range:

Salary range: $80,000 - $85,000 per year plus a competitive total compensation package. Actual salary will be commensurate with experience, skills and overall match to the position offered.
