Job description

Software International (SI) supplies technical talent to Fortune 100/500/1000 companies in Canada. We currently have a long-term, renewable contract for a Systems Team Lead with our IT consulting client, primarily supporting North American clients on various website and backend infrastructure services.

Role(s) Required: Systems Manager

Location: Remote (anywhere in Canada/USA/South America, but must be able to work on EST with the Canadian team)

Required Start Date: ASAP

Required End Date: 12 months + renewable annually

Type: Contract

Total Hours Approved Per Role: 40h/week

Rate: $60,000 - $65,000/year

Client Location: US/Canada

Summary:

Reporting directly to the CTO and managing the Systems department, this leadership role is responsible for the overall technical management, operations, ongoing maintenance, and support of large-scale production websites and networks.

Responsibilities include:

• Chief responsibility over systems and networks.
• Maintaining vendor relationships for technical infrastructure.
• Collaborating with Development Team Leads and Project Management to manage website projects and approve releases.
• Participating in planning and project discussions with Senior Management.
• Assessing and mitigating risks to systems, recommending and implementing changes.
• Ensuring high levels of systems security and reporting concerns to the CTO.
• Designing system and network architecture, including capacity planning and performance tuning.
• Serving as the escalation point for production issues.
• Managing risk through monitoring, redundancy, and backups.
• Supervising and motivating team members, maintaining healthy team dynamics.
• Providing technical assistance across various departments.
• Performing special projects as assigned by the CTO.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience with LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP)
• At least 2+ years in management/leadership roles in a tech organization.
• Support experience with web servers.
• Strong background with SAN storage (NFS and iSCSI).
• Experience with ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Kibana, Beats, Logstash).
• Experience adding/removing nodes, expanding/rebuilding clusters, and using InfluxDB.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF.
• Hands-on Linux system administration experience.
• Advanced networking skills including routing, switching, security.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Understanding of software development lifecycle and documentation practices.
• Extensive experience with MySQL, LAN/WAN/VPN, firewall technologies, cloud platforms (OpenStack, oVirt, RHEV), hardware, SAN, load balancing, backup, security, automation tools (Ansible, Puppet).
• Experience with web technologies.
