Duties and Responsibilities:

The Tier 2 – Systems Administrator will provide technical support for escalated issues beyond Tier 1 capabilities, maintain backend systems, and assist in IT project execution. The successful candidate will deliver services both remotely and on-site, providing high-level troubleshooting, system maintenance, and security implementations.

The key job functions are:

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues remotely and on-site.
  • Escalate unresolved or critical issues to Tier 3 support when necessary.
  • Implement and maintain cybersecurity measures including patch management, firewall management, and antivirus solutions.
  • Support IT projects such as network upgrades, server migrations, and cloud deployments.
  • Maintain and enhance server and network infrastructure.
  • Manage backend support for Microsoft Server, Exchange, VMware, and HyperV environments.
  • Utilize and maintain Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) and Professional Services Automation (PSA) tools like ConnectWise.
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure seamless client service delivery.
  • Develop structured troubleshooting documentation and best practices.
  • Conduct on-site client visits as required, with occasional short notice.
  • Provide Tier 1 support coverage during peak periods and staff absences.

Education:

  • Professional IT Certifications such as Microsoft MCP, MCSA, MCSE, Cisco CCNA, or VMware VCP are preferred.
  • Additional cybersecurity training and certifications are considered an asset.

Qualifications:

  • A valid Class 5 driver’s licence and access to a personal vehicle are mandatory.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to approximately 23 kilograms using proper lifting techniques.
  • Must reside in Calgary, Alberta and be able to work in office (SE Calgary).

Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience with both VMware and HyperV.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with Microsoft Exchange Server (both on-premise and online).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with Microsoft Server 2003 or newer versions.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience configuring and managing managed switches.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with managed firewall environments.
  • Prior experience working for a Managed Services Provider (MSP) is strongly preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Intermediate networking knowledge including firewalls, switches, and access points.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft products including Microsoft 365, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices.
  • Client-focused communication and relationship management abilities.
  • Project management skills, including the ability to manage timelines and deliverables.
  • Ability to think creatively, prioritize work, and deliver high-quality service independently and within a team.

Base Salary:$55,000 – 65,000 per year

  • Salary based on experience.
  • Full benefits package included.

Work Hours:

  • 40 hours per week.
  • Overtime/on-call to be anticipated (on-call rotating schedule)

  • This opportunity does not include relocation. It will be the responsibility of the candidate should relocation be required.
