Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field and 0–2 years in system administration.

  • Strong troubleshooting across OS and network configurations.
  • Experience with LAN/WAN, database connectivity (Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server).
  • Knowledge of MSMQ and messaging infrastructure.
  • Ability to automate via scripting or PowerShell.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

We are seeking a System Administrator to support the provisioning, configuration, troubleshooting, monitoring, and maintenance of Windows Server infrastructure in a high-velocity, high-throughput environment.

The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience with Microsoft Windows Server, networking, databases, messaging infrastructure, and enterprise system administration. This role will provide Tier III support, assist project teams with production transitions, troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues, and ensure the reliability, performance, and availability of critical systems.

The position offers exposure to infrastructure supporting GIS and Asset Management applications, as well as opportunities to improve system administration processes through automation and operational best practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, rebuild, configure, and maintain Microsoft Windows Server systems, including hardware, peripherals, services, storage, directories, and related infrastructure.
  • Provide Tier III and advanced technical support for infrastructure and application-related issues.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve complex operating system, connectivity, hardware, and software issues.
  • Diagnose and recover from hardware and software failures while minimizing operational impact.
  • Coordinate incident resolution and communicate effectively with impacted users, technical teams, and management stakeholders.
  • Apply operating system patches, upgrades, security updates, and administrative tools on a regular basis.
  • Configure and deploy new services and system components based on operational and project requirements.
  • Develop and maintain system installation, configuration, and operational procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive system administration tasks and improve operational efficiency.
  • Research and recommend scalable approaches that optimize infrastructure resources and reduce operational overhead.
  • Perform daily system monitoring to verify the health, integrity, availability, and performance of servers and infrastructure.
  • Review system and application logs and verify the successful completion of scheduled processes, including backups.
  • Execute and monitor backup operations, ensuring critical file systems and system data are successfully backed up and recoverable.
  • Perform file archival, retention, and purge activities as required.
  • Create, modify, and remove user accounts in accordance with operational requests and access procedures.
  • Install, upgrade, and configure system software supporting GIS and Asset Management applications.
  • Generate periodic infrastructure performance reports to support capacity planning.
  • Perform performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as needed.
  • Configure and optimize CPU, memory, storage, and disk partitions based on workload requirements.
  • Support project teams during the transition of applications and infrastructure from development into production.
  • Participate in occasional evening or weekend activities to support global stakeholders and planned maintenance.
Core Technical Skills
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or another technical discipline.
  • 0–2 years of experience in System Administration or a related infrastructure role.
  • Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Windows Server environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across operating system and connectivity issues.
  • Experience troubleshooting LAN/WAN, peer-to-peer, and network configurations.
  • Experience troubleshooting database connectivity involving one or more of:
  • Oracle
  • MySQL
  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Message Queuing (MSMQ) and messaging infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of server monitoring, patching, backup, recovery, and system maintenance.
  • Ability to investigate complex infrastructure problems and drive issues through resolution.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical teams and management stakeholders.
Preferred
  • Experience with Windows Server 2008/2012 or comparable Windows Server environments.
  • Experience supporting enterprise applications in production environments.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies.
  • Familiarity with GIS or Asset Management application infrastructure.
  • Experience with system performance monitoring, capacity planning, and resource optimization.
  • Experience developing or improving system administration procedures and operational documentation.
  • Exposure to scripting or automation for infrastructure administration.
Nice to Have
  • Experience with modern Windows Server versions and migration/upgrades from legacy environments.
  • Experience with enterprise backup and recovery solutions.
  • Experience automating system administration tasks using PowerShell or similar scripting technologies.
  • Experience supporting globally distributed infrastructure environments.
  • Familiarity with cloud or hybrid infrastructure environments.
