Join our Telecommunications Department!

At Humber River Health, our Telecommunications team plays a pivotal role in matters relating to locating, voicemail, pagers, telephone handsets, hands-free devices, assisted devices, and the telephone network. We are currently seeking a Switchboard Operator to join our Telecommunications Department. This individual will process a high volume of incoming and outgoing calls, assist with patient inquiries, and page support staff and/or physicians. Employment Status: Part-time
Hours of Work: Available to work all rotating shifts (Days, Evenings, Nights & Weekends)
Location: Wilson site
Labour Group: Teamsters Clerical
Reporting Relationship: Manager, Telecommunications
Hourly Rate: $25.111 - $26.004

Position Responsibilities:
  • Process a very high volume of incoming and outgoing calls, including assisting with patient inquiries quickly and efficiently.
  • Assist with outgoing calls and paging support staff and/or physicians as required.
  • Locate physicians and on-call staff for multiple departments and ensure they are contacted promptly within individual program protocols.
  • Provide batteries for physicians and sign out spare pagers.
  • Assist with orientation and training of new telecommunication staff.
Requirements:
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • A positive attendance record is required.
  • Previous experience with Avaya phone systems and consoles in a healthcare/hospital environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated customer service and telephone skills required; one year experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Good organizational and problem-solving skills, including the ability to multi-task and prioritize a varied and busy workload with frequent interruptions and emergency situations.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with new privacy legislation.
  • Knowledge of a second language is an asset.
  • Good keyboarding skills, with a minimum typing speed of 40 WPM. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of PETALMD software.
  • Meditech experience is an asset.
  • Excellent attendance and a discipline-free record are required.

Applicants may be required to complete full administrative testing, including typing speed and MS Office skills.
