Job summary

Northern Health in Prince Rupert, BC is seeking a Switchboard/Health Records Clerk to support the Health Information department. Responsibilities include maintaining patient records, release of information, and handling admissions/discharges with accurate clerical support.

Preferred candidates will have Grade 12 and two years of related experience, strong medical terminology, and a typing speed of 45 wpm. Shift schedule is Tue-Sat with days/evenings as outlined.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 and two years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Experience with medical terminology is required.
• Proven typing speed of 45 words per minute.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain patient records and ensure accuracy across health information systems.
• Perform release of information, record retrieval, and file assembly.
• Answer phones, transfer calls, fax reports, and restock supplies on a daily basis.
• Register admissions and discharges and support patient flow as needed.

Job description

Position Summary

Northern Health is looking for an experienced, highly efficient, and self-directed Switchboard/Health Records Clerk to support the Health Information department.

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, and under the general supervision of Manager or designate, the Switchboard/ Health Records Clerk performs clerical duties related to creating and maintaining patient records, record retrieval, assembly, quantitative analysis, release of information, and clerical duties relating to the admission and discharge of patients including registration. Performs a variety of clerical duties such as answering phones, taking messages, transferring calls, faxing reports, and restocking supplies. Receives and forwards calls and information utilizing a switchboard, public address and related communications system.

Position requires medical terminology, typing speed of 45 wpm, and clerical experience

Shift Rotation/Hours of work:

Tues-Sat. stat off in lieu, alternating weeks of days/evenings, Days, Evenings - 07:00 to 15:00, 12:00 to 20:00

Qualfications

• Grade 12 and two (2) years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
