Qualifications

  • No previous work experience required.
  • Preference for candidates enrolled in, or considering, a technical diploma or degree in Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology or related municipal-type program.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 driver's license and a reliable personal vehicle.
  • Ability to understand and follow company document management and revision control processes.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and the ability to work with Microsoft Office Suite and file management applications.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the survey group on land development and municipal projects.
  • Assist with administration and management of projects, including travel to sites.
  • Provide field assistance and survey support during the construction season.
  • Assist with surveys for residential, commercial and industrial development.
  • Assist UAV pilot with flight preparation and field projects.
  • Assist with operating survey equipment such as RTK GNSS, Static GNSS, Total Station, UAV, and related platforms.

We are looking for a Survey Assistant to join our team on a temporary basis, Monday through Friday (40 hours per week). This position can be extended, depending on workloads and weather conditions, into the winter.

The Opportunity

The Survey Assistant is responsible for providing support to the survey group on industrial, residential and commercial land development and municipal infrastructure projects. Assist with the administration and management of projects, which will include travel to various sites and projects, providing field assistance and survey support services during the construction season.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with surveys related to the construction of residential, commercial & industrial land development projects and municipal infrastructure projects such as pipelines, wastewater, lagoons and roadways
  • Assist with preliminary topographic surveys, record surveys and data collection tasks for design purposes
  • Assist UAV pilot with flight preparation and UAV field projects
  • Assist with operating survey equipment such as RTK GNSS, Static GNSS, manual and robotic Total Station, multi-rotor UAV, Sonar platforms, digital and optical level
  • Assist with inspection services such as water tests, pressure tests, load tests, density tests
  • Assist with construction site monitoring including reviewing and enforcing project specifications and providing verbal reports to the project manager regarding project status and progress
  • Assist with quantity tracking surveys for progress certificate submissions
Working Conditions
  • Work is mainly in an outdoor environment with some office work
  • Travel outside the city may be required 10% of the time with some overnight stays
  • Ability to work outside in any weather conditions
  • Lifting, hammering and walking long distances required daily
  • Capable to lift or move up to 50 lbs regularly

  • High school education
