Job summary

The Durham District School Board (DDSB) is seeking a Supply Educational Assistant to join its team. You will support classroom teachers in delivering instruction to students with diverse learning needs, covering absences for a range of durations from a day to several months, within DDSB schools.

You will be employed directly by the board and placed in temporary roles across elementary and secondary settings, with possible movement between schools as assignments conclude.

Qualifications

• Secondary School Diploma (Grade 12)
• Experience supervising and supporting children
• Criminal Background Check with vulnerable sector screening required

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher in teaching and learning processes.
• Prepare classroom materials and equipment.
• Maintain student records and files.
• Supervise students in class, field trips, and activities.
• Support behaviour management and positive student conduct.
• Instruct and assist with basic life skills.
• Assist in student integration within the classroom.
• Support physical development and motor activities.
• Assist with student job placements.
• Provide personal care and mobility assistance as required.
• Assist students who are blind with braille or audio resources.
• Assist students who are deaf or non-verbal.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or teacher.
