Job summary

Gordon Food Service in Grande Prairie is seeking a driven driver-training coordinator to support new drivers and provide ongoing coaching for the fleet. The role focuses on performance input, route planning, and driver development to improve efficiency and service levels.

The successful candidate will reside in Grande Prairie, hold a valid Class 1 License, and demonstrate strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills to support our transportation operations and customer service

Qualifications

• Must have valid Class 1 License.
• Strong written and verbal communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to represent the department with customers and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Mentor, motivate, and develop staff and act as a role model.
• Assist in interviewing, hiring, training, and retaining transportation staff.
• Assist in performance assessments of staff.
• Initiate recognition or disciplinary steps as appropriate.
• Analyze vehicle, driver and route assignments to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Ride with drivers to provide coaching and training.
• Serve as back-up driver on routes as needed.
• Perform administrative duties assigned by Transportation Manager.
• Liaise between Sales Service Drivers, Sales and customers to identify service opportunities and solutions.
• Support other divisions when needed with at least two weeks commitment.
• Ensure compliance with policies, safety rules, and regulations.
• Support departmental goals.

Position Summary

Supports the efforts of Gordon Food Service drivers in serving customers through the initial training of new drivers and on-going coaching of all drivers. Provides input to manager on individual driver performance and plans to assist drivers in the continual improvement process. May be responsible for route balancing and assignment, temp routing, dispatching, equipment assignments, and backhaul scheduling. Facilitate or assist in conducting regular driver meetings. Assure compliance with pertinent Federal, State, and Local regulations and requirements. The successful candidate must reside in Grande Prairie and have a valid Class 1 License.

Essential Functions

• Mentors, motivates, and develops staff and acts as a role model and resource to them.
• Assists in interviewing, hiring, training, and retaining transportation associates.
• Assists the Transportation Manager in conducting performance assessment of staff.
• Initiates recognition of excellence or disciplinary action steps when appropriate.
• Conducts analysis of vehicle, driver and route assignments for high utilization; affects necessary changes to increase efficiency and lower costs.
• Regularly rides with driver to provide coaching and training.
• Serve as back up driver on routes to cover vacations, sick and miscellaneous coverage as appropriate.
• Performs administrative duties as assigned by the Transportation Manager.
• Serve as liaison between Sales Service Drivers, Sales, and customers to determine causes and impact of service opportunities and provide possible solutions to service issues.
• Supports other divisions when needed with a min of 2 consecutive weeks commitment.
• Ensures compliance with administrative policies, procedures, safety rules, and governmental regulations.
• Supports departmental goals.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

• Must have a valid Class 1 License.
• Must have Good written and verbal communication, problem solving, decision making, customer service and interpersonal skills to represent the department and speak at minor functions.
• Must have good time management and organizational skills.
• Must be courteous, motivated, flexible, open minded, a visionary, enthusiastic, encouraging, and able to delegate responsibilities.
• Must have a basic understanding of regulatory agencies and applicable laws.
• Must have good time management and organizational skills.
• Must have working knowledge of Handheld, delivery systems and backhaul systems and dispatch responsibilities.
• Knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing, presentation, email and internet software applications.
• Ability to operate a delivery van and tractor-trailer CMV
• Must be able to operate a two-wheeler with a load weighing up to 350 pounds.
