Job summary

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operation and supervision of the Roads divisions; urban and rural roads, traffic signs and pavement markings; storm water management.
• Coach staff, monitor performance, and ensure safety and service expectations.
• Assist Manager with budgets, reports, contracts, tenders, and correspondence.
• Respond to public inquiries and after-hours emergencies and storm events.
• Ensure compliance with federal, provincial and municipal legislation including the OHSA and Highway Traffic Act.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Operations - Roads & Traffic, or designate, the Supervisor, Operations - Roads & Traffic is responsible for overseeing the daily operation and supervision of the Roads divisions; urban and rural roads, traffic signs and pavement markings and storm water management; including: supervising and directing staff; providing strong leadership, advice and guidance to staff; actively reviewing and establishing maintenance standards and work plans for both staff and contractors; maintaining a visible and active presence in the field to observe work practices, reinforce safety and service expectations, coach employees, and ensure consistent accountability for operational results; providing dedicated oversight by establishing clear expectations, monitoring performance and productivity, addressing issues promptly, and leading continuous operational improvements. assisting the Manager with the preparation and monitoring of the operating and capital budgets; preparation of reports and correspondence in response to operational issues; preparation and administration of work contracts, purchase orders, quotations and tenders; responding to and resolving public inquiries and complaints; responding to after-hours emergencies and storm events; ensuring that federal, provincial and municipal legislative requirements are adhered to including the Occupational Health & Safety Act, the Highway Traffic Act, etc.; and, other related duties as required.

What You Bring To Our Team

As the successful applicant, you will possess: A post‑secondary diploma in Civil Engineering or related discipline; A minimum of five (5) years progressive experience in supervisory role; including utilization of strong management and/or decision making skills, while successfully leading a large work group(s), or equivalent combination of education and experience; A C.E.T. designation in good standing from the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) is preferred; Excellent communication skills in order to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, consultants and the general public; The ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines, including organizing and prioritizing workloads; A demonstrated ability to effectively
