Job summary

Town of Whitby is seeking a highly motivated Working Foreperson (Roads & Stormwater Management) to lead field crews maintaining storm water facilities, roads, sidewalks and bridges. You will manage winter operations, ensure safety, and coordinate day-to-day tasks with supervisors and staff.

You will train and guide staff, monitor performance, and prepare reports while maintaining inventory and compliance with procedures.

Qualifications

  • Two-year post-secondary diploma in Civil or Traffic or related field.
  • Three+ years of related experience in roads/traffic operations.
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in roads/traffic.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain storm water facilities, roads and ditches, sidewalks, bridges and monitoring.
  • Oversee winter maintenance of town roadways and sidewalks.
  • Provide guidance, training and performance feedback to frontline staff.
  • Schedule, plan and coordinate work; monitor inspections and material requirements.
  • Prepare reports, manage inventory and ensure safety per procedures.
  • Answer calls during after-hours on-call rotation and escalate issues as needed.

You perform work in a safe manner and encourage and support others to do the same.The Working Foreperson will actively monitor work activities and changing operational conditions; identify and respond to safety concerns, service disruptions, resource requirements and emerging issues; and promptly document, communicate and escalate significant, recurring or unresolved operational concerns, including observed job-performance issues, to the Supervisor of Operations for timely follow-up.What You Bring To Our TeamAs the successful applicant, you will possess:A minimum two (2) year post secondary diploma in a Civil or Traffic program, or related discipline.a minimum of three (3) years of directly related experience in roads/traffic division including considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in these operations;possess a demonstrated working knowledge of computer programs, including a working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook);Current Certification in Standard First Aid & CPR ‘C’ and AED.Traffic signs and line marking training, winter snow and ice control; Storm Water Management training;Mahoney Road School or equivalent;Designation as a Construction Road Supervisor or Road Construction Inspector, or a willingness to obtain.strong administrative, numerical and research skills to complete paperwork and computer work, estimates and ensure quality standards;strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills to effectively resolve issues;the ability to effectively organize and prioritize projects and work assignments;be able to exercise discretion, judgement and diplomacy;the ability to schedule staff, distributing workload fairly and equitably;excellent time management skills;the ability to train new staff and monitor performance;the ability and willingness to respond outside of regular working hours on an “on-call” rotation; and,A valid Class “DZ” Driver’s Licence with ability to qualify for the Town’s safe driver program criteria with demonstrated experience operating vehicles over 11,000 kg., G.V.W.;participation of after-hours “on-call” rotationWhat We Offer YouA comprehensive benefits and pension program to ensure that your total compensation package addresses both your work and life needsSalary Range/Hourly rate:$40.76 - $50.93Hybrid information:Mobile FrontlineHours:Flex hours, including days, afternoons and nights.
