Job summary

The Town of Whitby seeks a proactive Supervisor, Operations - Parks to oversee daily park division operations. You will lead a team, ensure safety, and drive continuous improvements, reporting to the Senior Manager, Operations - Parks.

This role requires strong leadership in a complex, unionized setting, with accountability for performance and budgets. You will coordinate staffing, equipment, safety training, and contractor oversight while addressing resident concerns and ensuring service

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Operations - Parks, the Supervisor, Operations - Parks is responsible for overseeing the daily operation and supervision of the Parks division including:

• Supervising, planning and delivering the day-to-day operation;
• Providing input to the development of long-term resource needs and strategic plans;
• Providing strong leadership, advice and guidance to staff
• Maintaining a visible and active presence in the field to observe work practices, reinforce safety and service expectations, coach employees, and ensure consistent accountability for operational results;
• Providing dedicated oversight by establishing clear expectations, monitoring performance and productivity, addressing issues promptly, and leading continuous operational improvements.
• Recruitment, training, personnel development and labour relations;
• Supervision, scheduling and oversight of work performed by staff and contractors;
• Preparation of reports and correspondence in response to operational issues;
• Ensure that the required staff, equipment and materials are available;
• Preparation, evaluation and administration of various tenders/quotations;
• Ensure compliance, including training and documentation, with technical regulations and legislation, including but not limited to the Occupational Health & Safety and the Highway Traffic Act.;
• Developing, implementing and training of new and existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and ensuring compliance and documentation as applicable, adhering to the Occupational Health and Safety Act;
• Assisting the Manager with the preparation and monitoring of the capital and operating budgets;
• Effectively respond to general requests, concerns and complaints from residents, the public, user groups, senior staff, and other departments; and,
• Participation in on-call responsibilities and responding to after-hours emergencies, storm events and winter operations
• Other duties as may be assigned.
