The YMCA of Northeastern Ontario is a dynamic charity dedicated to strengthening the foundations of communities by offering opportunities for personal growth, community involvement and leadership. We are currently looking for a Supervisor of Health & Fitness to join our team of committed professionals. This full-time position within the Association is housed at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario’s Durham location in Sudbury.

Under the leadership of the Centre Manager of Health and Wellness, the Supervisor of Health & Fitness will provide leadership, training and direction to a team of volunteers and staff who are responsible for providing quality YMCA health and wellness services. Programs include group wellness classes, personal training and recreation programming, and will identify initiatives to increase membership enrollment, retention and participant satisfaction.

LOCATION: Sudbury, ON

Major Responsibilities

  • Develop program initiatives to enhance the opportunities and services for members and participants in the program area aligned with HFA member retention plan.
  • Constantly challenge the status in order to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate programs which will impact the experience of members in the conditioning room and surrounding areas.
  • Coordinate and schedule all department activities and programs including partners and outside groups to ensure budget targets are met.
  • Conduct Fitness and Lifestyle Appraisals, prescribe exercise routines and follow up with assisted members to achieve their personal fitness goals.
  • Provide leadership in the planning and delivery of YMCA Fitness Leadership courses and certification.
  • Ensure that success criteria for self, staff and programs are set, reviewed, and surpassed regularly to provide excellent service delivery.
  • Provide training and support to staff and volunteers.
  • Recruit, hire, and supervise staff, volunteers, and schedule training events for staff and volunteers to ensure compliance with mandatory certifications.
  • Assist in the development of the department budget and to attain targets.
  • Schedule staff and volunteers.
  • Responsible for follow-up on all incident reports and comment cards.
  • Provide leadership to the level of service delivery for the department using Priority SAM Standards.
  • Build relationships with members and guests, and promote the YMCA as a charitable organization.

Qualifications

  • College diploma in Recreation, Sports & Leisure, Kinesiology or related field.
  • Nationally recognized Personal Trainer Certification.
  • Certification in YMCA Group Fitness Certification or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience within the core areas of health, fitness, recreation, outdoor education, and or administration.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstration of technical expertise in group fitness and individual conditioning.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR C.
  • Current and satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector.
