Are you an engineer or technologist in the fields of mechanical systems, naval architecture, or electrical, and looking for an opportunity in the marine industry? Join Fleetway Inc.’s engineering team and be a part of Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy and the Halifax Class Design Agent contracts. Through these contracts, Fleetway’s engineers and technologists provide a full range of technical data management and engineering support services to the Royal Canadian Navy. Be part of a team that produces complex designs to support new structures and systems, ensuring the Royal Canadian Navy is “ready to help, ready to lead, and ready to fight”.

We are looking for a qualified Supervisor, Detail Design for our Dartmouth, NS office.

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the team to advance the Business/Organizational and Functional/Technical competencies while maintaining a cohesive group.
  • Manage the Professional Development Check‑in process, including goal setting, monitoring, creating personal development plans, and completing required PD Check‑ins.
  • Handle the team’s first‑level employee relations issues and concerns.
  • Coach and mentor team members in support of their technical development and personal development plan goals.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the team to ensure the production of assigned work occurs efficiently.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Team Manager, Delivery Leads, and Program Managers on appropriate work assignments to keep team resources aligned with the 1:1:1 Tiered Governance company alignment.
  • Assign work to team members to meet utilization targets and enhance their technical skillset.
  • Ensure work complies with health, safety, and environmental regulations and Fleetway’s safety policies.
  • Provide administrative oversight of direct reports, including time‑sheet approvals, vacation approvals, sick time, and expense claim approvals.
Qualifications
  • Degree or Diploma in Mechanical/Naval Architecture/Electrical Engineering or Mechanical/Naval Architecture/Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • 2–5+ years of marine experience with progressively increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Experience in a variety of engineering project environments is an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience and/or aptitude for leading and developing people.
  • Demonstrated support of Fleetway/JDI values and leadership behaviours.
  • Must be able to physically work full‑time out of the office in which the position is based.
