Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Systems Design, or a related discipline.
  • Experience developing 3D models and engineering drawings using CAD software.
  • Experience with ShipConstructor is considered an asset.
  • All successful applicants must meet CGP and Government Security Clearance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain 3D models and 2D drawings for shipboard equipment, systems, and compartment arrangements.
  • Prepare technical studies, engineering drawings, specifications, and supporting documentation for government and commercial vessel programs.
  • Support equipment selection and contribute to the development of technical reports and design recommendations.
  • Perform engineering calculations, analyses, and assessments to support design decisions and system performance.
  • Conduct structural design and analysis, including finite element analysis (FEA), as appropriate to experience and project requirements.
  • Incorporate approved engineering changes into existing vessel designs while maintaining configuration accuracy.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on ship systems integration and design coordination activities.
  • Support the design, integration, and sustainment of complex marine systems throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Participate in design reviews, problem-solving activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Job Description

Fleetway is seeking Mechanical Engineers and Mechanical Engineering Technologists to join our growing team! In this role, you will contribute to marine design and integration projects, supporting the development of advanced mechanical systems for naval and commercial vessels. We are primarily seeking intermediate and senior professionals with strong technical capabilities, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines. We also welcome early‑career candidates who bring hands‑on experience with CAD tools and a solid understanding of mechanical or marine systems.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will develop and interpret detailed 3D models of piping and HVAC systems, verify model accuracy, and help resolve integration challenges. You will review legacy vessel documentation, incorporate approved engineering changes, and maintain accurate project records. Collaborating closely with structural, outfitting, and electrical teams—and utilizing coordination tools such as Navisworks—you’ll help ensure seamless integration throughout the design process.

  • Relevant experience in marine, shipbuilding, or related design environment: Junior: 0–4 years, Intermediate: 5–8 years, Senior: 8+ years
  • Experience developing 3D models and engineering drawings using CAD software
  • Experience with ShipConstructor is considered an asset
  • All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and Canadian Government Security Clearance
