Overview
Reporting to the Manager, Data Science & Operations, the Supervisor, Data Warehouse works with Information & Technology (IT) and business clients to analyze and develop solutions for complex business problems. The Supervisor leads projects or is a team leader on larger, more significant, Business Analytic Environment (BAE) tasks.
The Supervisor, Data Warehouse is responsible for managing data in the corporation’s Data Warehouses and Data Lakes. The Supervisor identifies how and where it exists, plans for its use, provides control mechanisms for its protection, assures its correctness and relevance, and manages the data collection and warehouse update process.
Responsibilities
- Participates in Business Analytics architecture development, as required.
- Leads and/or conducts the design and development of business information requirements to deliver stable data structures.
- Inventories data by gathering facts about the characteristics, quantity and location of organizational data and manages these facts.
- Supports the transition of high level data architecture into Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) specific physical database design.
- Provides guidance and assists with developing standard methods of data access and manipulation/usage.
- Resolves usage interpretation and meaning of data.
- Serves as a point of contact for IT staff and MPI business units on data warehouse issues and query/report requests.
- Promotes joint sponsorship, custodianship and sharing of data across the organization.
- Researches existing and new data analysis tools, techniques and methodologies, and trains others.
- As a member or leader of a project team, may be required to:
- Analyze problems or faults, determine effort required to resolve, and assign staff to the resolution
- Develop procedures for implementation.
- Analyzes current systems through review of documentation and interviews with IT and Business Analytics clients.
- Follows and is compliant with MPI policies and procedures and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
- Prepares or assists with developing business cases, requirements definitions, conceptual design documents, and Source-to-Target Matrixes related to the data warehouses.
- Develops project estimates, system designs, implementation designs, system and program specifications, and system and client documentation.
- Defines and maintains reports and warehousing testing requirements.
- Troubleshoots and supports Business Analytics data warehouses/stores.
- Leads teams in the development of new data warehouse/stores and enhancements to existing data warehouse/stores.
- Provides both technical and general direction to project staff members.
- Assists in evaluation of the performance of assigned staff.
Qualifications
Education:
- Diploma in Computer Science, Computer Programming, Business Analysis, or related discipline.
- Supplementary courses in data warehousing tools and techniques is an asset.
Experience:
- Six years of related experience in data warehouse analysis, design and implementation or implementation, including;
- SQL Programming.
- Two years project planning and/or leadership capacity.
- Management and maintenance of Business Objects reporting, and designing Universes using SAP Business Objects Designer is an asset.
- Experience in an insurance, finance or technology environment is an asset.
