Job summary

AltaLink in Calgary is seeking a Summer Student for the Capital Project Performance team to support monthly financial reporting and invoice coding within SAP.

You will work with the Manager, Capital Project Performance, pursuing a Commerce/Business Administration degree, preferably with Accounting/Finance emphasis, and develop strong analytical and teamwork skills in a dynamic utility environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1st year student pursuing a degree in Commerce or Business Administration (Accounting or Finance major preferred).
• Experience in SAP considered an asset.
• Strong computer skills with Excel; PowerApps considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports and information.
• Verify, monitor, and code project invoices for accuracy in AltaLink’s SAP system.
• Summarize financial status by collecting information and analyzing for SIS leadership.
• Assist with maintenance of 2027/2028 SIS capital delivery project lists.
• Support monthly controls and improve financial work processes.

NOTE: The start date is May 2027, and the length of the term is 4 months.

Job Description

The Capital Project Performance team has a requirement for a Financial Reporting Analyst summer student. Reporting to the Manager, Capital Project Performance, the primary focus of this position will be assisting in the completion of monthly Capital and Operating financial and reporting tasks.

To be successful in this position, you will be pursuing a degree in Commerce or Business Administration (Accounting or Finance major is preferred), have sound judgment, strong communication skills, and a positive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports and information.
• Verify, monitor, and code project invoices for accuracy and reasonableness within AltaLink’s financial system (SAP).
• Summarize current financial status by collecting information and undertaking analysis for review by S&IS leadership.
• Assist with the maintenance and accuracy of the 2027 and 2028 SIS capital delivery project lists.
• Administration and performance of monthly controls; and
• Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve financial work processes while effectively using AltaLink internal programs and systems.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1st year student, pursuing a degree in Commerce or Business Administration (Accounting or Finance major is preferred).
• Experience in SAP considered an asset.
• Strong computer skills, with proficiency in Excel. Interest in PowerApps considered an asset.
• Excellent problem solving and teamwork skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Effective communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills to interface with team members to promote positive outcomes.
• Proven track record of good attendance and performance.
