Job summary

MacEwan University is seeking a Student Outreach Assistant, Digital Engagement in a casual, on-campus role within the Student Life department. You will help amplify the student voice through authentic, engaging content across platforms, under staff guidance.

The role focuses on content creation, moderation, event promotion, and social media engagement, offering hands-on experience in campus communications and digital outreach to students.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled as a full-time MacEwan University student with at least 18 credits completed.
• GPA of 2.70 or higher.
• Experience creating content for social media.

Responsibilities

• Monitor Student Life digital spaces and campus feeds.
• Draft and publish student-focused posts promoting events and deadlines.
• Respond to routine student questions using approved messaging.
• Encourage student participation with polls and engagement activities.
• Review user-generated content and escalate concerns as needed.
• Create digital graphics and visual content using Canva.
• Draft captions and short-form content aligned with branding for approval.
• Collaborate with Student Life staff to brainstorm content ideas.
• Adapt content for different platforms while maintaining student-centered tone.
• Attend select events to capture photos/videos and share approved content.

MacEwan University is seeking a Student Outreach Assistant, Digital Engagement for a casual opportunity with our Student Life department.

We are looking for a student who is enthusiastic about being a positive peer representative of Student Life and helping share the student experience through authentic, engaging content.

In this role, you will support peer-to-peer digital engagement for Student Life platforms and social media channels. Working under the guidance of Student Life staff, you will assist with content creation, moderation, and promotion of events and services, helping foster a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging online student community. This position is designed to elevate authentic student voice and provide meaningful, hands-on experience in digital engagement and campus communications.

Key responsibilities include:

• Monitoring Student Life digital spaces and campus feeds;
• Drafting and publishing student-focused posts promoting events, services, and deadlines;
• Responding to routine student questions using approved messaging and guidelines;
• Encouraging student participation through polls, prompts, and engagement activities;
• Reviewing user-generated content and escalating concerns to Student Life staff;
• Creating digital graphics and visual content using Canva;
• Drafting captions and short-form content aligned with Student Life branding for approval;
• Collaborating with Student Life staff to brainstorm student-focused content ideas;
• Adapting content for different platforms while maintaining a student-centered tone; and
• Attending select Student Life events to capture photos/short videos and sharing approved content during or after events.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled as a full-time student at MacEwan University, with a minimum of 18 credits completed in program of study.
• Must be in good academic standing with a minimum of 2.70 GPA.
• Experience creating content for social media.
• Experience using Microsoft and Google applications for everyday academic or project work.
• Familiarity with social media platforms or simple graphic design tools such as Instagram and Canva.
• A natural presence in front of the camera would be considered an asset.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
