Job summary

Saskatchewan Polytechnic Prince Albert Campus is seeking a part-time Student Library Assistant to greet visitors, provide basic library help, and process check-ins and check-outs.

You will handle shelving, refer students to resources, assist with equipment, take payments for fines, and support clerical tasks while leveraging strong customer service and organizational skills. Three days a week, mornings, lunch, and Fridays until 6pm are typical shifts.

Qualifications

  • Current Saskatchewan Polytechnic student
  • Minimum six (6) months of customer service experience
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Basic Internet
  • Basic working knowledge of computers and related office equipment
  • Effective oral communication skills including basic telephone and customer service experience
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of automated system software (client databases, inventory etc.)
  • Handling cash and use of a digital cash register
  • Ability to work alone
  • Attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Act as peer ambassador to the library
  • Greet and welcome everyone to the library
  • Provide basic library help
  • Sign materials in and out for clients (clients defined as students, staff, peers)
  • Shelving, sorting, and processing materials
  • Refer students to library resources to meet their needs
  • Provide technical assistance with library equipment
  • Take payments for library fines and fees
  • Provide basic clerical support
  • Tidying the library
  • Provide the student perspective to improve library services (e.g. social media content)
