Cenovus Energy offers a multi-disciplinary student internship in Calgary, with placements across Data Science, Workforce Analytics, Shared Services, and more. You will work on real projects, learn cutting-edge analytics tools, and receive mentorship from industry professionals.

Applicants must be enrolled in an eligible undergraduate program and plan to return to full-time studies. Relocation and structured development opportunities are part of the program.

Possible Placements and What You’ll Do

Business Systems & Pipeline Services

• Capture and analyze business data to identify key metrics and trends.
• Create and maintain Power BI and TIBCO Spotfire dashboards and reports.
• Document processes and support knowledge transfer with business systems leaders.

Workforce Analytics & Strategic Planning

• Develop scripts and custom applications to improve HR processes.
• Build skills in programming, data engineering, analytics, statistics, and HR.
• Support data and platform migration to Azure Databricks.

Shared Services

• Support key business initiatives across M365, SharePoint, Power Platform, and Power BI.
• Improve data integrity and application road maps.
• Document data flows and support productivity across the organization.

Data & Information Management

• Support key business initiatives across M365, SharePoint, Power Platform, and Power BI.

SAP Applications

• Support IT Operations deadlines, deliverables, and daily activities.
• Assist SAP and Integration teams with monitoring and project tasks.
• Build ServiceNow reports and support compliance reporting.

Energy Trading and Risk Management

• Provide technical support for ETRM systems.
• Maintain CMDB, technical, and user training documentation.
• Improve Power BI dashboards and the ETRM SharePoint site.

Production Controls

• Solve business problems using data science and machine learning.
• Support internal tools and end-to-end machine learning solutions.
• Track adoption, value creation, and data science best practices.

Crude Trading – Refinery Supply

• Support the trading desk through crude supply and logistics analysis to inform trading and optimization decisions
• Collaborate with trading and operations teams to develop and implement automation solutions using R, Python, and Databricks
• Monitor market and operational data, and develop dashboards to support market insights, operational visibility

Who you are

• Legally authorized to work in Canada full-time for the duration of your work term and able to produce documentation upon application (e.g., work visa).
• Available to begin work in May 2027.
• Ability to work well in a team environment.
• Solid analytical and Microsoft Suite skills, specifically Excel.
• Excellent interpersonal, judgement, and decision-making skills.

Education

• Must be enrolled in a Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Software or Computer Engineering Undergraduate Program at an accredited post‑secondary institution at the time of intended work term and returning to full‑time studies after the work term OR registered in an accredited post‑secondary co‑op or internship program for the duration of the work term.
• Candidates currently enrolled in either a Masters or Ph.D. program at an accredited post‑secondary institution may also be considered.
• New graduates are not eligible for student opportunities.
