Cenovus Energy is currently recruiting for a geology or geophysics summer student to join our Atlantic Region Subsurface Developments Teams in St. John’s!

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Subsurface Developments, Atlantic Region, the student will be a member of and support a G&G team within the multi-discipline Subsurface department. The team is responsible for Cenovus’ interests in exploration and discovered resources offshore NL that are not yet at a project sanction stage.

What you’ll do
  • Example student projects include evaluating exploration prospects using available seismic and regional well data, or curating a summary of known, unknown/potential offshore gas resources, or any other scopes that may become priority work as business need evolves at the time of placement.
Who you are

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canadafull-time for the duration of your work term and able to produce documentation upon application (e.g., work visa)
  • Available to begin work in May 2027
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail
  • Strong technical skills (MS Excel, digital databases)
  • Experience with Petrel software not required but may be an asset
  • Critical thinker and ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Innovative, with a strong desire to learn and the ability to encourage new ways of looking at problems, processes or solutions
  • Demonstrates collaboration by actively seeking out diverse people and organizations to collectively achieve business goals

Education
  • Must be enrolled in an Geology or Geophysics Program Program at an accredited post‑secondary institution at the time of intended work term and returning to full‑time studies after the work termOR registered in an accredited post‑secondary co‑op or internship program for the duration of the work term
  • Candidates currently enrolled in either a Masters or Ph.D. program at an accredited post‑secondary institution may also be considered
  • New graduates are not eligible for student opportunities.

Consistent with the Accords Act, residents of Newfoundland and Labrador specifically and Canada generally, who are qualified, will be given first consideration for training and employment.
