Job summary

Brock University is seeking a Student Financial Services Officer to advise students on financial portfolios, registrations, and aid. You will leverage OSAP knowledge, perform data entry, and analyze accounts to guide awards and collections.

The role supports recruitment and retention and requires strong Excel and MS Office skills, confidentiality, and excellent communication. This permanent position offers benefits and a pension plan within an on-campus setting.

Qualifications

  • A college diploma or undergraduate degree in a related field.
  • Experience in higher education, with experience in Registration, Financial Aid, and Student Accounts.
  • Excellent financial acumen, including knowledge of budget and basic accounting.
  • Strong Excel skills (i.e., ability to create pivot tables VLOOKUP, filter, etc.).
  • Detailed knowledge of MS Office, BrockDB, Workday and OSAP Software.
  • Knowledge of Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) requirements and related University confidentiality and release of student information practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening and verbal communication skills, to assist with understanding student needs and providing relevant financial counselling.
  • Ability to de-escalate tensions in high-stress situations and provide guidance in a calm and professional manner.
  • Ability to interpret financial accounts and effectively provide explanations to clients and colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with students and related parties through appointments in person or online to answer questions and provide guidance.
  • Perform analytics and recommend improvements to financial programs for current and prospective students.
  • Attend Open House and university events to support recruitment and retention.
  • Make decisions on emergency funding advances for students in dire financial need.
  • Process loan applications, including data entry, editing, and adjustments of amounts awarded.
  • Evaluate student accounts and determine credit amounts, process refunds.
  • Record detailed notes on student records reflecting interactions and status.
  • Process, monitor and analyze customer invoicing.
  • Perform collections for student and other receivables per university policy.
