Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Student Engineering Intern to assist senior staff in executing new-nuclear project deliverables in Canada. The role is based in Mississauga or Pickering, ON and requires obtaining security clearance; citizenship is advantageous.

You will support engineering administration, project administration and data collection while being mentored by experienced engineers and EITs. The program runs 4–16 months, depending on availability and study plans.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a college or University in Engineering/Technology.
• Preference for Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Civil, Engineering Physics, Applied Math or Nuclear Engineering.
• Experience supporting projects including construction, manufacturing or engineering services.
• Commitment to Safety.
• Excellent organizational, communication and customer relationship skills.
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
• Progression within a recognized course of study; preference for engineering students.

Responsibilities

• Organizing, hosting, minuting regular meetings for senior staff.
• Collecting data and status for regular schedule updates.
• Updating project KPIs and performance indexes.
• Maintaining a running log of project lessons learned.
• Minor document revisions and learning administrative systems (Proact, Mytrak).
• Performing other administrative or analytical tasks as directed.
• Self-study of quality procedures required for typical tasks.

Overview

Student Engineering Intern AtkinsRéalis is one of Canada’s largest private sector nuclear engineering groups. We have been providing a wide range of services to the nuclear industry in Canada and around the world since for more than 60 years. We are proud to be the steward of Canadian CANDU nuclear technology. The position of Student Engineering Intern will be a junior contributing role to assist Technical Directors, Technical Managers or Senior Technical Leads in the execution of new-nuclear project deliverables. The successful candidate will join a mature team of project and engineering personnel and will be assigned tasks in the areas of engineering, engineering administration and/or project administration. This role will be based in Mississauga or Pickering, ON.

Your Role

The employee will be required to obtain security clearance for CANDU Energy Inc. facilities. This activity typically requires extended time for someone who is not a citizen of Canada, so Canadian citizenship is an advantage.

• The employee will be expected to perform tasks and activities commensurate with their level of experience and familiarity with the technology, while supervised by more senior engineering (and EIT) staff.
• Organizing, hosting, minuting regular meetings for senior staff.
• Collecting data and status for the purpose of regular schedule updates.
• Updating project Key Performance Indexes.
• Maintaining a running log of project lessons learned.
• Minor document revisions, including learning to navigate the various administrative systems (e.g. Proact and Mytrak ).
• Performing any other administrative or analytical review or investigation as directed.
• Self-study of the requisite quality procedures required to perform typical engineering and/or project administration tasks.

About You

• Duration: 4, 8, 12 or 16 months depending on candidates’ availability.
• Currently enrolled in a college or University in the field of Engineering and/or Technology (with preference of Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Civil, Engineering Physics, Applied Math, Applied Physics or Nuclear Engineering).
• Experience supporting various type of projects including construction, manufacturing or engineering services projects considered an asset.
• An appreciation of the importance of Quality Assurance Programs and their significance to the nuclear industry considered an asset.
• Excellent organizational, communication and customer relationship skills.
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
• Progression within a recognized course of college or university study – preference will be given to engineering and/or engineering technology students.
