Job summary

MacLachlan College in Oakville, Ontario, is seeking a part-time Student Early Childhood Educator to support the Aftercare component of our Extended Hours Program. You will work with RECEs, supervise children aged 3–12, assist with age-appropriate activities, and help maintain a safe, inclusive environment from 3:00 p.m.

to 6:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, September through June. This role offers valuable hands-on experience in early childhood education while contributing to a supportive school

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working or volunteering with children is an asset but not required.
  • Basic understanding of child development and age-appropriate activities.
  • Familiarity with the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) is an asset.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR certification is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside and support the Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs) on duty in delivering the Aftercare Program.
  • Assist with the supervision of students aged 3–12 during indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Support age-appropriate activities, including games, crafts, creative play, and quiet activities.
  • Promote positive student behaviour, respectful interactions, and positive peer relationships.
  • Help maintain a safe, welcoming, organized, and inclusive environment.
  • Observe students and communicate any concerns regarding safety, behaviour, or well-being to the RECE on duty.
  • Follow school policies, health and safety procedures, and direction provided by the RECEs and school administration.

The Position:

MacLachlan College is seeking a part-time Student Early Childhood Education (ECE) student to support the Aftercare component of our Extended Hours Program.

The Student ECE will work alongside and support the Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs) on duty in providing a safe, engaging, and nurturing Aftercare Program for students aged 3–12.

Under the guidance and direction of the RECEs on duty, the Student ECE will assist with student supervision, age-appropriate activities, positive social interactions, and the overall well-being of students participating in the program.

The Aftercare Program operates from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, from September to June.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work alongside and support the Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs) on duty in delivering the Aftercare Program.

  • Hours are 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday to Friday
