Job summary

Upper Canada Child Care is hiring for a RECE/Assistant Educator in Alliston, ON (split-shift, 27.5 hours/week). The role requires a diploma/degree in Early Childhood Education (or equivalent), current ECE registration, and CPR-C/First Aid.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Engages with children to provide a positive learning experience and assist with meals, toileting, and dressing.
  • Participates in professional development, staff meetings, and training.
  • Completes program charts, daily logs, and administrative tasks.
  • Provides guidance to assistant educators, students, and volunteers.
  • Communicates with parents and attends meetings as needed.
  • Uses Storypark for documentation to guide program development.
  • Collaborates with team members, school personnel, and outside agencies.
  • Identifies children needing extra support and helps design individual plans.

We are currently recruiting Registered Early Childhood Educator(s) or equivalent (Child and Youth Worker or OCT Member) and Assistant Educator(s) to join our Team in Alliston at the following location: Alliston Union PS.

*Candidates must be available to work a split shift in a before and after school program.

Position Type & Required Availability:

  • Full-time Split Shift Position (27.5 hours/week): Candidates must be available to work a split-shift (morning and afternoon) in our Before & After School programs Monday-Friday to be considered.

Position Summary:

To ensure operational and curriculum requirements are met in compliance with all Ministry and organizational guidelines. To ensure the delivery of a developmentally appropriate, play based program by applying specialized skills and knowledge related to early childhood education. Supports the organization’s vision, mission, and guiding values. This is a fully in-centre position.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Applies current legislative expectations and professional knowledge to support a program that is consistent with Ministry of Education requirements and in accordance with Upper Canada Child Care’s program statement.
  • Adheres to the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice as outlined by the Ontario College of Early childhood Educators (for RECE position).
  • Engages with the children and provides a positive learning experience. Provides a range of care including assisting with meals/snacks, toileting, diapering, dressing, etc.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities, staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Completes program charts, daily logs, reports, and other administration tasks as required.
  • Provides guidance to assistant educators, students and volunteers as needed.
  • Fosters the engagement of and ongoing communication with parents about the program and their children. Attends parent and community meetings as needed.
  • Uses Storypark for pedagogical documentation as a guide for program development.
  • Effectively collaborates and communicates with other team members, school personnel, and outside agencies to help support the needs of all children.
  • Identifies children in need of additional support. Guides parents through the process of accessing resources. Helps design and implement individual support plans as required.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education (or approved equivalency) from a recognized college or university (for ECE position).
  • At least 18 years of age or older due to licensing requirements.
  • Health assessment and up-to-date record of immunization as outlined by legislation.
  • Up-to-date registration with the College of ECEs (if applicable).
  • Up-to-date certification in CPR-C and Standard First Aid (training provided upon selection if required).
  • Experience with inquiry/play based program design and implementation, and with the use of pedagogical documentation.
  • Uses initiative; applies sound reason in solving problems and resolves conflict in a calm, professional manner.
  • Proven ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively and establish appropriate relationships with families, coworkers and other professionals.
  • Have the physical and emotional stamina to effectively supervise children in a variety of settings including outdoor public spaces.
  • Ability to use computer systems and programs; including Dayforce, and Storypark.
  • Moderate level of physical effort is regularly required; including but not limited to kneeling, pushing, pulling, bending, and carrying.
