MacEwan University is seeking a Student Course Production Assistant for a casual opportunity with the School of Continuing Education.
Working closely with the program management team, the Student Course Production Assistant will apply developing design and technical skills to support design development and course production activities for new and existing courses within the School of Continuing Education. The work produced will support and enhance student learning across varying stages of the course life cycle – from initial development and promotion to post-pilot revisions. You will offer hands-on application of developing skills for a student interested in illustration, design, and educational media development.
Key responsibilities include:
- Applying learned and developing design skills to support the creation and production of visual design assets, such as illustrations, icons, layout elements, banners, infographics, and pedagogical scenarios, that support student learning while aligning with course objectives and institutional brand guidelines;
- Researching and applying best practices of visual hierarchy, spacing, and alignment for clean layouts in visual assets;
- Recognizing the impact of effective technical design on student success rates, instructor workload, and course marketability, and incorporating this understanding into daily responsibilities; and
- Assisting in building or updating digital learning objects (H5P, Rise, Articulate 365, Premier and others) under guidance/supervision and based on existing templates and guidelines.
Skills
You will have:
- An understanding of file formats, resolution, and image optimization for web and mobile delivery;
- Familiarity with design principles, learning theories, and accessibility principles (e.g., captioning, alt-text, colour-contrast checks);
- Effective written and verbal communication and customer service skills;
- Effective organizational and time management skills;
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills;
- An analytical approach to troubleshooting media issues;
- Resourcefulness and flexibility to pivot between multiple projects and adjust to evolving requirements or tight timelines;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Adobe Creative Suite (including the ability to create/modify images using Photoshop, Illustrator) and file management principles;
- The following would be considered assets:
- Additional Digital design applications (i.e., Canva, Figma)
- Familiarity with and ability to create multimedia or interactive learning activities using e-learning or multimedia authoring software (could include H5P, Articulate 365, Rise, Premier or similar)
- Experience using a learning management system and associated programs
- HTML and motion graphic skills
Qualifications
- Must be a current student at MacEwan University.
- Experience and/or coursework in design, visual or interactive projects, with the ability to translate concepts into real deliverables and demonstrate exposure to design and media tools.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
