Job summary

Assegai is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer to perform structural analysis, design and detailing for building and industrial structures. You will design reinforced concrete and structural steel elements and coordinate with architectural, civil, mechanical and electrical disciplines.

The role involves preparing calculations, reports and drawings, reviewing work from technicians, and conducting site inspections to ensure construction aligns with design intent.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or technical degree in civil engineering with a structural emphasis.
• Approximately 5–10 years of relevant structural engineering experience.
• Proven experience in structural analysis and design of buildings/industrial structures.
• Strong working knowledge of reinforced concrete and structural steel design.

Responsibilities

• Undertake structural analysis, design and detailing for building and industrial structures.
• Design reinforced concrete, structural steel and associated foundations and structural elements.
• Prepare and review structural calculations, design reports, drawings and technical documentation.
• Develop practical and cost-effective structural solutions appropriate to project requirements.
• Coordinate structural designs with architectural, civil, mechanical, electrical and other project disciplines.
• Provide technical input from concept and feasibility stages through detailed design and construction.
• Review drawings and information prepared by technicians and draughting personnel.
• Carry out site inspections and construction monitoring to verify that structural works are completed in accordance with the design intent.
• Respond to technical queries arising during construction and assist with resolving site-related engineering issues.
• Attend client, professional team and site meetings as required.
• Liaise with contractors, suppliers and other project stakeholders.
• Assist with the preparation of specifications, schedules, technical reports and tender or construction documentation.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable South African codes, standards and statutory requirements.
• Manage assigned design tasks and deliverables against agreed project programmes.
• Contribute to internal design reviews, quality-control processes and technical problem solving.
• Support junior engineering and technical team members where required.

Minimum Requirements

• BSc/BEng in Civil Engineering, or BTech/BEngTech in Civil Engineering with an appropriate structural engineering focus.
• Approximately 510 years' relevant structural engineering experience, preferably within a consulting engineering environment.
• Demonstrable experience in the structural analysis and design of buildings and/or industrial structures.
• Good working knowledge of reinforced concrete and structural steel design.
